I considered it maybe 1997-2001 Trinidad being the last fight of his 'prime'

Hopkins wasnt green at 28-30 years old. He was very schooled and beat some top fighters in his division. All he needed was a marquee name to reach the big time. He fought RJJ, and just got beat, he has and will always have trouble with fighters who are quick, unorthodox, and can out highish punch output.

With the way he fights he could have another 5yrs.....he usually comes in with a right hand over the top and then clinches....

Losing to RJJ when he did, given Hopkins own style and physical tools, is practically meaningless. A prime RJJ isnt just a quick, unorthodox guy, hes one of the most freakish fighters of all time. The RJJ loss is rather meaningless, imo.

Prime and peak are two different things. His prime was probably around the Johnson fight. Very quick, very busy, very limber. His peak was probably the Trinidad fight; old enough to be smart, young enough to be as quick, mobile, and explosive as he was.

It's kind of a shame he never had another great fighter to test just how good he was during his prime. Yeah, there's RJ but he was green and RJ is one of the best ever p4P. A few A level fighters during his prime to truly test his greatness would've been nice.

I mean his performance against Tito was simply amazing but he was 36 and clearly past his physical prime.
