Tell me Boxing fans. Do/did you rate Calzaghe and Kessler as stay at home fighters?

Again, you're looking from the wrong perspective.

It doesn't matter if Joe fought away from home more than Kessler.

Joe was better than Kessler. So he should have done more with his talent. What realistically, could Kessler have achieved that he hasn't?

    Not much.

But Joe had the potential to have gone to the U.S. to have made himself a big attraction. He could have moved up and potentially have cleared out 175.

Kessler maxed out, whereas Joe had more to give.

    That's the difference.

There's no need to boxrec who fought away more and count them up. It doesn't matter.

If Kessler had fought away from Denmark 5 times, and Joe had've fought away from Wales 100 times, he would still be labelled as a stay at home fighter to the U.S. fans.

Because he didn't go over there and prove how good he was when he was prime.

Like I always say to you, everyone has different circumstances. Joe was too good to keep defending the WBO at 168.

Boxing is a business and unsurprisingly fighters usually fight where they are popular, can sell tickets and generate interest.

In answer to the question. Yes, yes they were as that is what made the most sense. Now what I guess the OP is driving at here is should we give Ward as much **** as he gets for staying in Oakland?

The answer is prob yes - and this is from someone who has him as p4p number 2 - because he he isn't a draw in oakland. If he could shift numbers at home I'd understand but he doesn't.

The other interesting thing with Andre is how even when he wasn't the champ he has always been allowed to call the shots. He's a great talent but he has pretty much had everything his own way from the outset.

In 46 fights and I will only reffer to the world title fights as many fighters fight away when in novice stage.
Calzaghe in 46 fights, fought away in Denmark, Germany and America twice. I wont mention any of the British countries.
Kessler when at 46 fights had fought away only 4 times also in world title fights in America, Germany, Austalia and Wales.

With the above in mind please explain

Ridiculous comment Loudon. so you say if one fought away 100 times and the other didnt due to thoughts on talent, you would still get labelled :patsch

You really are fooled by titles? Its who you defend against and when you look at that he has the best SMW resume ever. The title doesnt mean a thing.
Are you this fooled by titles?

Was Ricky Burns fighting away from home when he fought Katsidis in London?

Was Antony Joshua the away fighter when he beat Darch in Cardiff?

You seem to have jumped in the middle of a discussion Dino and talking in cross purposes.
Please do not waste my time until you have had a catch up on the thread. Until then, read up. Thank you

Joe Louis never fought outside US. Imagine him going to Berlin 1936 to defend against Schmeilling ?
Kessler and Calzaghe will always be labelled as home-fighthers, mainly by US-fans.
But nothing strange in boxing at home. Any build-up of a fighter starts at home. Neither Calzaghe or Kessler were on demand for fights in Las Vegas, Toronto, Rome or Cairo - when they started up.
Kessler always had a desire for fighting abroad. Mogens Palle brought him along and introduced him for US-promoters - who liked what they saw but also wanted a share of it.
Sure - Calzaghe, Kessler and Joe Louis were homeboxers.

No because they fought outside there own country quite often. Ward is an example of a stay at home fighter.

In all fairness nobody has to go to the US to prove anything.
