He was a decent safety-first mobile cutie type.lanky,Quick feet, lots of lateral movement, not much power or offensive output.Liked to potshot and counter from the outside. Spent the majority of time defending his WBA belt against poor opposition, while most of the better contenders were fighting Arguello and each other. He didn't have a very good chin, being often shaken and having a handful of knockdowns plus an embarassing KO loss to the poor Uehara against him. Best wins probably against Villaflor and Leonel Hernandez, who was maybe a bit past his best after brutal fights with Arguello and the snake man. I'm not really a fan, but to be honest it's been a while since i really watched him.I would need to hunt out the stuff i have of him to give a more in-depth opinion right now.
Serrano was kind of like Virgil Hill, in that he was safety first in the ring, and in terms od defending against WBA mandatories. But like Hill, he was a skilled boxer who was capable of scoring a big win from time to time. Villaflor, Mgxaxi, Hernandez, Yoshio, Echegaray are all decent scalps, and he held the ultra-skilled Marcel to a split decision in the latter's backyard. Serrano, imo, remains the one glaring omission on Arguello's 130lb resume, and it would have been interesting to see how Arguello dealt with a fighter who utilized a style that tended to cause the Nicaraguan problems.
