Everyone is going to have critics.

No one is going to be universally loved, but most people give him his due, even if begrudgingly, as a dominant HW champ of the past 8 yrs

Its not his fault. There is just not enough talent for him to showcase his greatness. The last high level fighter he fought was David Haye and that was 3 years ago.

Yeah, but the question wasn't: Why does W Klitschko Fight so Conservatively?
Everyone knows why he fights the way he does.

it was about what he could do to win new fans over (I think). The poster that you're responding to is echoing a lot of people feelings about Wlad, he's a safety first, boring HW champion.

They love him in Germany, and that should be enough for his supporters but some people seem to feel that he needs to be universally appreciated.

In reference to the original question; I'm not sure he can do anything to 'win', finish out his career being the boring champ in the ring and the classy guy outside of it.

Wlad fights on free to air terrestrial tv in Germany and Ottke did higher numbers than him.
Germany is the only country he has fans. A country of 80 million , only 9 of which bothered to watch. On free tv.

Wlad and his promotional company should organize a 4 man tournament including Pulev, Fury, Wilder and Charr. The 4 man tourny will take one year to complete. In that time, Wlad can fight the winner of the Arreola/Stiverne match, beat them and then fight the winner of the 4 man tourny later in the year or early next year. That will win my attention and respect

He should be a superstar but that might come yet. He doesn't talk or act loud, not his nature.

He has pretty much done that for the last 8 years but there are not many left.

I wonder if people know, or remember, the type of "adulation" other HW champs like Holmes & Holyfield got.

Holmes was in an era where boxing was MUCH more mainstream in the states. Holmes wasn't as dominant against his opponents as Wlad has been since 06-on, meaning his fights were more exciting, dramatic, and fan-friendly. See Norton, Weaver 1, Shavers 2, Snipes, Cooney, Spoon.

Holyfield was an Olympic medalist, fought possibly the most exciting cruiserweight fight ever against Qawi (on national broadcast TV, not cable), arguably the best HW fight of the 1980s against Dokes, and had very entertaining title defenses against Foreman and Cooper. He was highly criticized for fighting those two old guys in Foreman and Holmes and not stopping them (suffering a nasty cut from an elbow against Holmes) and his near-disaster in the 3rd against Cooper. It wasn't his fault the Tyson fight didn't happen, it was Tyson who pulled out with his "rib injury" (which just happened to come about after the judge denied his request to delay the **** trial).

Holyfield received a lot of either criticism, or begrudging respect. It was only after fighting Bowe that a lot of the criticism went down.

But I guess this is ancient history of the long forgotten and past era of 1992, so
I guess it's too much to expect people to actually remember or study this era.

Wlad cannot do anything, its too late. He's honed his style and found his niche in boxing and has made a success out of it.

The only positive in this for joe public and many boxing fans is that it makes it all the more entertaining if a new young challenger comes out from the boxing swamp and KO's Wlad for the title.

To be honest I don't know what more he can do. He's not going to change the way he fights and he acts with dignity and respect out of the ring.
If he did fight with more aggression , more open then of course he'd win over more people , but if he got knocked out doing so then he'd probably get called glass jawed or something

I agree with those who say he's done all he can in terms of opposition. He's beaten what's out there, and there's nowhere else to go.

A also agree with those that say his style is a deterrent. It is.

All he needs to do to win is to continue doing what he's doing.

No need to mind the critics or bashers- every successful fighter's got them, and it's a pointless endeavor to try and win over every person. Why let the critics dictate his choices?

He's beaten everyone that's been put in front of him and I think he will continue to do so. I can't see anyone out there at the moment with the tools to trouble him.

This said he could at least try to seek out the most competitive match ups out there even if the results would largely be the same. We don't want to see utter mismatches like we did last weekend.
