seeing some of the knockouts on the temple, how the **** does that happen? i've been hit very hard a few times on the temple by a heavyweight(i'm a welterweight) with no effect, but have been groggy for a few seconds with chin shots some of the hits i've seen have even been glancing blows and it doesn't make sense
I have knocked out a guy with a shot that hit straight on the temple. I had the oportunity to talk to him a while after and he said that it felt like he just fell and went up directly, in reality he was out for more than ten seconds. So that can be a dangerous place to take a hit. the Predator
I ment to direct my question at joffo, not you hardman. I feel its a reasonable, medical based question, and Im curious as to why this happens too now.
Because you are sparring against big guys whos shots you probably see coming hitting you with 16oz gloves on a headgear. And maybe they aint loading up on you since you're a welter. Id say 90% of actual KOs come from chin shots but there is a sweet spot on the upper part of the temple that can do damage. If you get hit with a good shot up there that you don't see, it can shock your legs and wobble the **** out of you. Its happened to me a couple times, got caught with a hook that landed on the upper temple that buckled my legs. That same hook I would have laughed at if it landed anywhere else. See Fedor-Fujita and Norris-Waters of how a blind temple shot can disorient.
I took one on the temple that wobbled me a while ago. I wasn't down but my legs turned into pudding. It wasn't even a hard punch, just a fast snapping one.
yes your most likely right about them not being power punches, and the sweet spot, but the gloves were only 12 oz, and no headgear
