It's incredible how much Spinks stint at heavyweight causes so many to overlook his devastation at 175.

So we are then to consider right crosses exclusively. Perhaps that was inferred by the thread starter (Burt), but I do tend to take these things too literally sometimes.

Fleischer rated Fitz as having the best left hook of all time in, "50 Years at Ringside." Bob's right has certainly nothing to sneeze at, but it was his left which was filmed winning the heavyweight title in Carson City.

Years ago, a report I read said that a Sullivan right, "bowled Corbett over" in the 19th round, but that Jim made it back to his corner without difficulty when the bell rang. Sometime, I'll need to dig into some local library microfilm to see what the round by round wire reports were actually communicating during the live event. (Maybe somebody here has more immediate access to source documentation about this.)

:clap:That and it's unfair because he had a few good wins @ hvy against Holmes & Cooney(not a great fighter but a unexpected ko for Spinks). Yes he gets remembered for being ko'd by a PRIME TYSON but not many would beat Tyson that night and Spinks just wasnt the man to do it. He is one of the greatest lt hvy's having wins over Braxton & Mustafa and a fight with Matthew Saad Muhammad would've been great.

Yes, and this brings to mind the fact that Ike and Eddie went the distance with him. Where Michael is concerned, I find myself picturing how his hook turned Wassaja into a bobblehead doll, and laid out Marvin Johnson flat, or mechanically whacked Tangstad, just as often as I see his right uppercut off the ropes explode like a shotgun blast against Jerry Celestine's head. The Jinx cross was his best punch, but he knocked out second tier opponents with it so routinely, that there isn't really a singular iconic example of him eliminating somebody with it. (Vonzell Johnson is the first name that comes to my mind when considering his straight right.) Spinks bled Ranquello dry with his jab alone. Mike really had it all, except a fast start at the world class level.

1.Alexis Arguello-threw it straight as an arrow.
    2.Juilan Jackson
    3.Thomas Hearns
4.Michael Spinks-took down heavyweights with it.
    5.Earnie Shavers-ask Larry Holmes
    6.Rocky Graziano-Won a title with it.
7.Danny Lopez-righthand power brought him back from the brink of defeat many times.
    8.Matthew Sadd Muhammad-Power and pride.
    9.Lew Jenkins
10.Mark Breland-say what you will about his pro career but he had a great righthand.

Not just that, but just the Tyson fight. Unbelievable.

His stoppage over Cooney required quite a few punches, but the size disparity was big.

Let's not forget the sadly forgotten now ,Jack Delaney....On Jan 16,1925 Delaney kod Tiger Flowers in the first round...Tigers corner, claimed Tiger beat the 10 count, and Jack Delaney, allowed the bout to continue in the second round..Well in the 2nd round, another straight right be Delaney, flattened Flowers for the count...Feb. 26,1925 ,Jack Delaney's laser right once again kod Tiger Flowers , in the sixth round...How about that ,three knockouts in two fights...Jack Delaney had a missle for a right hand, and I might add was a great boxer also...Forgoitten today...Sad...
