Some are on the cards anyway. Some are wild card picks I thought might be fun especially number 10. What are your thoughts on these fights at 160? As for Pavlik, I reckon if he comes back it will be at 168 so I left him out. I also realise that JCC Jr might stay at light middle and AA might not be able to make the weight. But as potential match up's I think they could be quite interesting. Middleweight has some potentially exciting matchups next year. As with all divisions, 160 needs unification in my opinion.
Lets hope AA can make 160 again. As for Lemiux V Pirog I think it could be very good too. But I though Contender V contender would be interesting too and guererro looks good too.
about a month ago i thought kirkland-williams would be the most savage war in boxing, a scarily brutal fight. sergio kinda changed that though, don't think the punisher will ever be the same...
yeah, i'd agree with that actually. even with the glaring flaws williams had showed i never thought he'd be knocked out, he always had a great chin and throwing 100 punches per round i just thought him against kirkland would be brutal. but you're right, angulo-kirkland would be hellacious.
I don't see why he can't come back. Sure, his confidence might be dented, but it was a one-punch KO, not a sustained beating over 12 rounds. Its the long drawn out battles, where a fighter is taking constant punishment, that can lead to an accelerated deterioration. Williams will be fine IMO.
HBO should do a Middleweight contender tournement. 8 fighters and the winner gets a fight with Martinez. David Lemiuex Dimitry Pirog (WBO) Gennaday Golovkin (WBA) Fernando Guererro Craig McEwan Andy Lee Darren Barker Matthew Macklin Pirog vs Guererro for the WBO title in Atlantic City Lee vs McEwan on the undercard. Both Lee and Guererro are big ticket sellers in the new york/new jersey area. Thats a great Boxing after Dark show. Then you do another BAD show with Macklin vs Barker on tape delay, followed by Golovkin vs Lemieux in Canada. Do both cards a max of 3 weeks apart to keep the momentum going. The winners fight each other on a joint show in a neutral venue then the final is on a double bill with Sergio Martinez. You pay $200k to each for the quarter finals, with the belt holders getting $100k bonus for putting there titles on the line away from home. Semi Final goes up to $300k with $500k to the belt holders. In the final they get $750k each with a guarenteed $250k bonus going to the winner. They then get a guarenteed $1mil for a fight with Martinez which will be a massive fight. All of this fits within the budgets HBO has for there shows. The participants can also make additional revenue from ticket sales and home TV money. $200k (£125k) would be the highest payday any have recieve so far. The 4 fights for the winner can take place within 1 year. I haven't included the following for these reasons; Sturm, Sylvester, Abraham - All happy to defend there belts in Germany. Will be making more than is on offer. Will all be retired soon. Chavez Jnr, Kirkland, Williams - All make to much money and want to be at 154lbs max. Guys like Geale and N'Jikam are mandatorys for Sturm and Sylvester. They can become replacments depending on Injurys.
