1. Sonny Liston 2. Mike Tyson 3. Roberto Duran 4. George Foreman 5. Jack Dempsey 6. Max Baer 7. Stanley Ketchel 8. Carlos Monzon 10. Thomas Hearns I know some will disagree with me ranking Liston ahead of Tyson, but I think that Liston's mob background made him more frightening. Either way, I think most can agree either Liston or Tyson is 1, with the other at 2. Post your own lists and let me know if you think I excluded somebody.
Larry Holmes - dazzling boxing skills with a nasty streak and chip on his shoulder, also quite handy even today, so wonder what he was like in his prime, scary. Sergey KRUSHER kovalev - cool determind fighter with deadly power and a liking for hurting people inside that ring.
Ali, seems odd I know, but so confident, and would make jokes and clown on some of the toughest guys face to face. Surely no matter how bad and confident you were, you'd feel intimidated by this, not just his attitude, but knowing his overall skill. A different type of intimidation, but definitely an intimidating presence, that combined with the anger and anxiety you'd get from would certainly take a toll on a guy's mental stability.
Met Holmes a few times and recently rapped with Kovalev for about ten minutes. Real nice guys. Talked to Frazier and was around him at his gym and he was way way more intimidating. Still the most intimidating man I've met.
Larry's a sweetheart but there is little doubt he would **** your **** up in a minute. From personal experience, I will add Michael Carbajal (and associates) and Johnny Tapia.
Personally, id say Holyfield for the similar reasons. Can you imagine hitting a guy with your best shot and he just smirks and carries on coming? Thats Holyfield. And you know your f***ed. From boxers perspective, i believe Tyson is the most intimidating fighter ever. Just look at his 'resume' when it comes to who he intimidated. The boxing world has never seen a fighter since, the only guy who comes close to the aura of Tyson, is Golovkin. And he aint no Tyson.
I don't know enough about the Past - Figg, Broughton and such company, or even heading into the early 20th century too, but I've got no doubt many of these chaps would have easily qualified. but from what I do know I'll have a pop at it. John L Sulivan James Jefferies Jack Dempsey Jack Dillon Joe Louis Jock McAvoy Archie Moore SRR Ike Williams Ali Frazier Forman Duran Holyfield Tyson Benn GGG of course there have been 'hundreds' more, but of the most famous names these me all carried a certain psychological unspoken level over most of their opponents.
1.Jack Johnson 2. Jess Willard 3. Sonny Liston 4. Tyson 5. George Foreman 6. Ernie Shavers 7. Roberto Duran 8. Marvin Hagler 9. Tommy Hearns 10. JCC Sr.
Bowe deserves a mention. He was a character, but when he put that cold gaze on , you knew he was all business and ready to take you apart. Benitez anyone? Those staredowns!
Best way to measure this is to provide a 'resume' of people intimidated by X fighter. Was Foreman really that intimidating? Im not trying to take the mick. But the only guys who were visibily scared of him were Norton and Ali. Young, Lyle, Morrison, Holyfield, Moorer....etc none of these guys showed any fear of George.
