Rubin Olivares in his hayday no doubt put the frigtners on many a bantam Edwin valero certainly had ...er an aura about him Jake Lamotta (when you've hit him with your best shot for Nil Gain )
Foreman in the years 72 -74 was more intimidating than tyson, he was a dark mad face and huge body , funny the peolpe picking duran lmao,
intimidation is measured by who they intimidate. who exactly did Foreman intimidate? Asides from Norton and Ali? i guarantee Tysons resume was a bit longer
Not going to make a list. But Sam McVey, Iran Barkley, and Abe Simon were pretty scary looking guys when they were starring men down. Not people I'd likely be able to look in the eye.
Intimidation in boxing often goes hand in hand with the direct fear of being hurt. Tysons opponents at the height of his powers had been getting dragged out of the ring feet first, giants toppling everywhere. plus he was quicker and meaner and more skilled and more accurate than anyone else out there, pretty much everyone was quaking in their boots facing him until he lost. Foreman and liston and hagler and mugabi, and mclellan and hearns and lightweight duran and julian jacksonwere intimidating for the same reason, they weren't just beating people, they were wrecking them. Theres not just the risk of losing, theres the possibility of really getting hurt. I think the other type of intimidation comes when boxing a 'star' Ali was a star, ray robinson, mayweathers a star, it must be like fighting charleton Heston himself
I'd find away to put Hagler in there somewhere. I know when I was a kid he use to intimidate me and I was only watching him on TV. At 6'5" and a punch like a howitzer, Lewis too, could be intimidating
Duran was absolutely an intimidating presence. Antonio Margarito...the first time I saw him was the weight-in against Cotto. Never seen the guy before but when I saw him I thought right there and then that Cotto was a loser, just based on how big Margarito looked. He had a maniacal glint in his eyes that I found quite unsettling. I think Listton at #1 is a decent choice. A frightening-looking man with mob connections. Massive bear paws for hands. No wonder Floyd looked petrified of him. I think also that John L. in his time must have been a guy best avoided either in the ring or at the pub.
Ali was scared to death with Liston too btw. It didn't mean much as we know but he was scared, many people close to Ali said so.
