This might be a topic that is above the heads of some people (no disrespect) but I was just wondering what the opinions of people here are regarding the ideal level of stiffness or compliance of tendons in different sections of the body when it comes to the sport of boxing. Relatively speaking is there much need for compliance of tendons in say the shoulders? So would doing heavy bench press which would increase the stiffness of the tendons be a beneficial exercise or would it reduce the efficiency of punching? I would say that compliance in the shoulders would be important for boxing as the shoulders are not required to generate alot of force in a punch and you'd want a large range of motion. I'd assume that you'd want some stiffer tendons in the lower body as they are responsible for the majority of the force of a punch. Most people, strength and conditioning coaches included place alot of emphasis on muscle, fibre types etc. When you actually look at what is producing the most force in alot of sporting movements it's actually the tendons doing the majority of the work most of the time. Sports specifity is very important, plyometrics and flexibility training are essential for improving the efficiency of energy release from tendons so I'm thinking that they should be things that should be focused on more than lifting weights when it comes to boxing training. Thoughts?
Mate, don't post if you're just going to **** over what could be a decent thread by posting random crap.
Lefty, it should be of interest in Boxing. Muscle and Tendons protect Joints, If the muscle and Tendos are not balanced, niether are the Joints. Damaged Cartilage wear and tear spring to mind. Interestingly the shoulder does generate power. Theres a very interesting permatation of 15% runs through the system.
