Does anyone know why The Cubans nicknamed Teofilo Stevenson "Pirolo" what does it mean and whats its significance?
There's article that says it was a reference to the town in the eastern province of Las Tunas where he was born.
Do you know if he ever had any other nicknames given to him, for example by the Americans or anyone else for that matter?
i did like floyd pattersons 'forgetname' for him "that concussive cuban" but to be honest. it was 'Teofilo Stevenson'. no nicknames no gimics.
In an article straight after the Bobick fight (rematch in Munich) Stevenson was referred to as a 'Cuban Buzzsaw'. Not a nickname as such, but gives you an idea what the Americans thought of him (AP or NY Times I think)
