Lopez is under contract with Arum for the next 3 years. And Arum is trying lowball him purses. And is threatening to shelve him out of spite. Problem for Arum is Lopez has belts and since he has belts he has mandatories. And when Lopez refuses Arums purse it goes to a purse bid and somebody else pays Lopex way more and then Lopez has to kick some of the purse to Top Rank. So the dude is totally betting on himself and telling Arum to F himself. **** off Arum!
This **** is killing boxing but I'm not sure how much of the public wrangling is genuine. At the end of the day the boxer and promoter make money together, more money in the pot equals more money for all so they have shared mutual interest. A lot of this is just a show for us fans to allow the boxers for not fighting the toughest fights
Arum is honestly a stain on boxing Pacquiao, Lopez, Crawford happily squandered. Tried to do the same with Andy Ruiz Jr. He'd do the same to Fury but Fury generates the big money only against big opponents. It's basically a free ride for Arum, probably took his eye off these other stable fighters because he's generating so much income from Fury who's massive team of management do most of the legwork. Arum is basically extra legal council. Floyd, Andy Ruiz Jr & recently Pacquiao have showed Arum will just waste your talent and thieve/suppress your earnings. Floyds greatest win was paying his way out of Top Rank. Smart move from Floyd.
Not trying to paint with a broad brush here but every single boxing promoter is a no good lying conman who would stab their grandmother in the shin for a Groupon to Burger King. Every time one of the old guard like Arum gets screwed over or dies some new guy who reeks of cheap cologne and taco meat takes their place... looking at you Eddie Hearn. I *was* hopeful that social media along with Covid might shorten their reigns corrupting boxing. However now I understand that they are mighty, like the roach.
The Bobfather is a dinosaur in boxing, and there are a lot of things to dislike about him, especially in recent years with how he handles his fighters. But I feel that on some level he deserves some slack. The fact that he is still involved in the sport at 89 years old and still is somewhat coherent at that age is pretty mind boggling. But, at the same time, no, I don't think you can lump in all promoters into the same boat. Every promoter is different. Eddie Hearn is a far more likeable personality than Arum, but again age makes everyone grumpy and Bob is at an extremely advanced age. The criticisms are valid, but I think we need to cut Bob just a tad bit of slack. He's been involved in the sport for an etenity.
Lopez hit the jackpot with this purse bid but I find it hard to believe he will consistently get these purses in the future unless he is fighting other big names. I wonder if he will keep holding out for more money that isn't there.
this is an exception, triller wont always be there to pay more. if he keeps this attitude lopez will just end up frozen like crawford
As much as i hate PBC and the cult at least they find the money to back their fighters Arum is the USA version of Frank Warren these days Both seen better times
I thought Hearn had at least an ounce of respect until he teamed up with the world boxing scumbag (Canelo)... Hed drink Canelos **** to get a two fight deal from him
