I hope he succeeds. Fighters are better off becoming free of selfish promoters like Top Rank. Floyd Mayweather became wealthy after freeing himself from Bob Arum. Terrence Crawford should do the same.

Floyd mayweather had several ppv under his belt and was already a name when he left top rank, plus he inmediately fought the biggest cash cow in de la hoya. Lopez is a complete unknown , by leaving top rank all he would do is trade his matchmaker for dazn, haymon etc. its not even a comparable situation

Bad news for fans in that we're definitely not going to see Lopez vs. the Taylor-Ramirez winner... Good news in that he almost HAS to fight Tank, Haney or Garcia now because fighting mandatories won't get him the paydays he wants moving forward.. His name's hot now cos he beat Loma but a couple of Kambossos level fights would cool that off real quick.

I wish him luck though... In the age of social media, it makes no sense to give a promoter 20% off the top for something you can do for free.

It would be an odd decision.

A lot of the biggest fights for him at 135-140 are still with TR fighters.

Does he have a case? Todd expressing displeasure is entirely different than Todd blocking Matchroom's bid. And even then, a demand might not justify a lawsuit. Or guarantee a win, rather.

You should understand that Floyd was an established name in the industry by the time he left Top rank. As was Manny, as was Oscar. TR helped to make them big stars, then when big enough names, they left.

Unless Teo has a legitimate reason to get out OF A CONTRACT, he isn't going anywhere. And he'll just have pissed off his promoter. They better have a case.

Hopefully when Teo breaks free he opens Crawford's cage

Would be shocked if could get out of his contract and I don't believe he wants to go alone just probably wants to sign with Hearn.

I can understand why he would be upset that Duboef emailed DAZN complaining about Hearn bidding. For the fighter it doesn't really matter who wins the purse bid. Lopez was probably happy as just wanted to make as much as possible for the fight regardless who won the purse bid.

The fact that TR bid the lowest probably didn't help either as maybe he now believes Top Rank don't hold see much value with him and that's why he thinks he can earn more with another promoter.

Still I doubt he will be able to get out the contract.

In essence yes but the reality is the vast majority of fighters can't go alone. You have to remember going alone means the fighter then has to swallow the costs and unless you are a Star it's very risky to start staging events when you could lose money.

Floyd bet on himself but Mayweather was a star already with huge potential to become a real PPV box office star. How many fighters are in that position?

With a promoter you will still get paid your purse regardless if the event loses money and the fighter doesn't have to worry about promotional costs, event costs, hotels, flights etc etc.
