This is fine as a mandatory

The guy just beat Lee Selby who although not prime is still a good scalp

Im not even a Lopez fan, just a fan of boxing. As a boxing fan, I want to see good fights, not crap like this one. This guy is a nobody, talentless bum whose claim to fame is beating a faded and shot Selby? That’s his only win against an opponent anyone has heard of and Lee’s sell-by date expired a long time ago. As stated earlier, I just want to see good fights and this is far from a good one. So many better options at 135 and they pull this bum out of a dumpster? Lopez is going to easily knock him out and we can look forward to half wits like you saying your guy had a bad night. He’s an unproven fighter with no business in a fight like this one. After this fight he can go back to being a sparring partner if he’s up to the challenge.

take it like the canelo vs yildirim fight, its just a stay busy fight for lopez against a badly overmatched opponent , to stay in shape in between the big fights. On top of that he gets a mandatory out of the way, at least lopez remains active these way

Completely agree unless he moves to 140 right after this fight. If they happens, I’ll be phased and disappointed. Also, I’m against mando fights if the opponent is severely overmatched. Stay busy fights are part of boxing but Canelo’s opponent was a disgrace to the sport. How can these corrupt organizations pick these bums out of the dumpster and make them manditiries? That was my main complaint.

If Lopez wants to fight a no hope bum, it’s less objectionable if he’s not planning to leave the division afterwards and duck three or four guys I’d like to see him fight.

Let’s see how he does. He will lose every round and not finish the fight on his feet. What should we call a low skilled inexperienced fighter who has no business in a championship fight? He will be a massive underdog for a reason. The only reason he’s in this position is to give Lopez a soft touch in his first defense as unified champ. Bum.

show some respect he's a decent fighter while he may never be a world champion hes still a B level fighter... far from a bum.. lee shelby may be fading but beating even a faded shelby proves you are not a bum

Fair enough. I didn’t mean to disrespect the guy. He’s risking his life in this fight or in a fight against any top fighter. How did he become mandatory? Like the Turkish wonder Canelo just beat up without working up a sweat, I don’t think he’s ready for this steep a step up in competition. I was mainly pissed because I wanted to see Lopez fight a top guy before moving to 140. Can we at least agree this guy is not a top LW and has no business in a fight of this magnitude?
