Cotto by absolute murder! I'm a Teo fan and when he's on form, he's very impressive but Cotto was a special talent.
I have a softpot for Teo, I've said it many times, I consider he is way more talented than what people here give him credit for, and that his problem is not his talent (which I think is huge), but his brain. But I have even a bigger softspot for cotto. So I will say cotto.
Stylistically Cotto is one of my most favourite fighters ever. I go with my man Miguel. Once he got going it was like watching a painter go to work.
Like the guy above me said, we need more evidence of how good Lopez really is at 140. Until then, you probably have to favor Cotto. Cotto isn't running over him, though. Cotto was more vulnerable there, having a rough spots against Corley (hurt badly), Torres (knocked down), and Abdullaev. At minimum, Lopez's dynamism sees him land some hard shots. Maybe that keeps Cotto more honest. Maybe Cotto has to box on the back foot because of it and his versatility has him win a decision.
I wanna say it could go either way. Both guys will beat some good fighters but they aren’t the hardest to hit. Any fight I remember of both their faces are marked up and bloody.
Cotto faced more notable names at 147 and higher but I think he stopped everyone at 140 at the championship level with the exception of Paulie. Have to favor Cotto on that one. Give Lopez some time but I still think the answer is Cotto no matter what, unless Teo just blows out Prograis and Haney. If that happens, then we can come back to this discussion.
