Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson is set for January 31st

    If Zepeda could land looping overhands consistently on Stevenson, a few bad enough to buzz him, then Lopez who landed the same punch on Lomachenko plenty, can as well. People need to remember, this is Stevenson's debut at the weight, while Lopez is very acclimated and had no problem beating southpaws in Taylor and Loma even though it was close. Yes, the Martin and Ortiz matches were robberies, but Lopez has a history of fighting to the level of what he thinks his opponents are going to be. Ortiz came with a completely different game plan than he was expecting, and it threw him off his game. As far as Martin goes, he was coming off of beating Mikey Garcia with ease, then went on to beat Puello with ease and get robbed. He struggled with Puello far less than Matias did. It should be clear to anyone with a functioning pair of eyeballs that Sandor Martin is a very sturdy elite fighter and one of the best guys at 140. So there's no shame in that. Lopez is bigger, stronger and faster than anyone Stevenson has fought before. Stevenson's power has gotten progressively worse the further up he moves, if he has nothing for Lopez he's screwed. Fimo is it going to lay a Taylor-like beat down on his ass and stop him in 6. Overconfident hubris filled Shakur backers, doubt Lopez at your own peril.

    I think Shakur is going to realize that he is in trouble after the first serious exchange like when he gets on the ropes or in the corner and he's let smaller guys throw at him while he covers up and dodges. He probably thinks he will be safe because he has done this with bigger guys in sparring but I think when Teo hits him even on the arms and shoulders with those 8oz gloves he is going to panic. It's easy to be overconfident when you have spent a career as a weight bully. I think he is in for a rude awakening at 140 against a real champion.

    Absolutely, and let's be real, Shakur's resume is atrocious. Valdez was a doped up bum, who went life and death with Quigg, Marriaga, Jayson Velez, Adam Lopez and clearly lost to Conceicao, and that's probably Shakur's best win. Yoshino was a face first slow as molasses plodder, who went on to get KO'd by the thoroughly unproven Siro Choi. Mason and Muratalla showed Nakathila's level. De Los Santos he beat less impressively than the atrocious William Foster III. Conceicao clearly has a problem with slick southpaws even going back to the amateurs. I love Zepeda's style, but his struggles with Farmer highlighted his shortcomings. Padley needed a gift against a shot Reece Bellotti in his next match. Frank Martin showed Shakur how to deal with one fight a year Artem Harutyunyan, who hasn't fought since. Herring was a shell. As much as I love Pitufo Diaz, he always loses when he steps up. While Teofimo has struggled multiple times, but he's always been willing to test himself and take on the best of the best. Also, let's cut the ****, wins over Lomachenko, Taylor, Barboza Jr, Nakatani, Ortiz, Martin and even Claggett, who'd been on a hell of a run, were far tougher tests than any of Shakur's opponents to date. Also, while some of those wins are sketchy, as I mentioned, Teo fights to the level of his opposition. He clearly didn't take Kambosos, Martin or Jamaine seriously, and paid for it. But when he does, and we all know he's taking this match seriously. He shows up 100% on, and is a force to be reckoned with.

    The post fight reaction for either fighter whoever ends up losing is something to look forward to just to see how they will handle a loss. Will we see Shakur crying or Teofimo being delusional as hell? We shall see.

    Very good assessment. I picked Shakur initially, but as the fight gets closer, I'm not too sure, especially considering this is Shakur's 1st fight at lightweight. Even though SS gets a lot of hate, I got to respect him taking on Teo in his debut fight in that division.

    The question is, will the loser stay for the post fight interview. Nowadays the norm seems to be the loser refuses interviews. I always like seeing both guys talk about the fight.

    LOL. If I'm going to go and ignore her, I'll just watch it on my phone. But I won't. It's an old friend of hers from high school, it'll be a bit of a high school reunion for her, so I need to be present for her and not embarrass her.

    Plus she's taking a day off work in a couple weeks to attend a work-adjacent lunch with me so it's the least I can do.

    So, sigh, I get to avoid the internet until i can watch, and have to pray I can start the fight without the outcome being spoiled.

    The more I think of this fight I just think it’s going to be a draw. They’re 2 elite fighters on the top of their game and neither one f these guys are coming to lose.

    And yet you picked practically every single one of these Shakur opponents to beat him. Don't go making excuses about how Teofimo is a bum when Shakur beats him. Keep that energy and give him his flowers for once.
