Big step up for both boys, as Whitfield faces his first opponent rated below 600. Teremoana faces his first opponent rated below 500. Obviously this bout in contention for fight of the night Dont Blink.
Whitfield is no heavyweight. Buddy is six foot nothing and debuted at super middle...and in the amateurs was a MW (fought guys like Shawn Porter and Denis Douglin) All his HW opponents have been jabronies. I like Teremoana but this isn't even close to a step up in class for him.
Whitfield was a LHW in 2014, had 2 fights at CW that year coming in well under the CW limit at 188 and 195, and then he disappeared for almost a decade (a few months shy of a decade) and returned weighing 235 winning both his subsequent fights via DQ
Kind of, yeah To be fair, he actually looks in good shape in his Boxrec pic but that could well be over a decade old This content is protected
Wait Whitfield has one his heavyweight bouts by DQ? He could beat Teremoana via DQ. Not a massive step up for Teremoana, but his first pro fight with some guy who was a bit good. He is still very early in his career and is still learning and improving, makes sense he will be fighting guys like this for a little bit longer.
We'll see how good Teremoana is when he fights someone with a pulse - he's going to learn nothing bulldozing security guards every couple of months.
Not defending Whitfield as an opponent for Teremoana but truth is he was a late replacement. Teremoana's original opponent got COVID about a week out from the fight.
By my count, Teremoana still has at least 2 more easy fights before a step up. They want him to get to at least a double digit perfect record this year before stepping him up more. Ideally something like 12 - 0 before the end of the year.
