He recently tweeted that he could/would do it. Funny thing is, I been saying this for 5 years now. I thought that he and Keith Thurman (back when he was the man to beat at 147lbs) would have been a great fight to have in Lincoln, NE for a unification bout. But PBC was in the midst of trying to freeze out Crawford after he moved up and beat Jeff Horn for the WBO. ----Larry the Cable Guy (comedian) did 50K in 2009 at Memorial Stadium. ----Brad Paisley did a free concert in 2016, can remember how many attended that but it was a massive event. ----There was just a volleyball game last year that brought in 92K attendees to Memorial Stadium. Nebraska Football has struggled to be on top of college football for a couple decades now, but it's still a blue blood football program with rich history and it's stadium is among the most marveled locations in the sport. The Cornhuskers are diehard fans and arguably one of the most loyal in all sports with over 400 consecutive sellouts. Hell, their Red/White spring game brings in 60K......that's nothing more than a glorified scrimmage/practice..... Crawford has established himself as one of the greatest sporting attractions in the state, behind Nebraska Football obviously and on par with Nebraska Volleyball which is a national championship contending brand. The volleyball team plays at Pinnacle Bank Arena (Lincoln, NE) and average attendance is 5K/6K there. Crawford became Undisputed the 1st time in that same arena and had an attendance of 12K. This was vs a relatively unknown opponent to American boxing fans (Julius Indongo) and a name no one was calling for to fight Crawford...... Imagine what he could do vs a Spence Jr. (rematch) undisputed at 154lbs, Jaron Ennis, Vergil Ortiz, or even a Charlo fight. He could have Keyshawn Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Troy Isley, Chris Eubanks Jr., or any other names associated with him and his team apart of the festivities. And what if it is his "Going away party".....last fight before retirement... Or at least the vibe of it in the build up to fight night gives that.... Memorial Stadium sells itself. Add in a local hero whom is a World Champion and the most accomplished active fighter in the sport.....All we got to do is get him a dance partner that gives him an attractive storyline.
You thought he lost to a naturally bigger man who refused to engage with him for 7 rounds, then got hurt 4 different times when he did? I've rewatched the fight repeatedly just because so many claim it was close and honestly don't see where Madrimov ever had control of the action in the ring. He did land some clean punches on Crawford in the late rounds, but none were extremely effective in the sense of causing Crawford to pull back on his attack and/or hurting him. And very few times did Madrimov land a punch without receiving a 3/4 punch combination in return as he pulled back. Honestly, I've never seen a fighter get so much clout for so little work against his opponent. Especially when you look at how he's fought his previous opponents, the aggression and attacks were night and day vs Crawford. As far as his career, not much of a mystery. He had a good amateur career, but not great, thus he didn't have a red carpet rolled out to his pro career. After opening eyes with a few pros via sparring, specifically Tim Bradley who was a world champ at the time, he got his opportunity with Top Rank who was able to put money in his pocket and got him world title shots, but didn't quite capitalize on his marketability.
Madrimov landed clean, flush punches for like 10 rounds. And Bud had trouble landing anything at all the entire 1st half of fight...and Imma Bud fanboy
You're lying. Even on the fact you are willing to call yourself a "fanboy" of any fighter let alone, Crawford's. 10 rounds of flush punches by Madrimov....lol. If he was landing anything "flush" in the opening rounds, then he wouldn't have been as cautious as he was throughout the first 8 rounds. He didn't even attempt to exchange with Crawford until the 8th. He didn't throw more than one punch at a time until the 7th. If I'm wrong, give me the time stamp of whatever round in which you saw Madrimov do otherwise. I have the fight cued up here in the gym office. I'll gladly go look and admit to me being wrong if you can point that out. Crawford had trouble landing?......He touched Madrimov often but the commentators were so busy leg humping Madrimov for his feints. Only ones claiming Crawford struggled is those who were hoping that Crawford would lose to Madrimov..... Listening to those commentators, you can hear the ball caressing of Madrimov from every comment. It even got to a point in which a individual who actually had experience not only in the sport, but in the ring vs Crawford, Shawn Porter, had to say "I don't know what it is y'all are looking at......but Crawford is doing great work and putting Madrimov in position to get countered".........They continued and you heard the frustration of Porter on their ignorance and he even went silent purposely on them when they asked his take on something. It was rather hilarious. Great boxing minds like Andre Ward, Tim Bradley, Teddy Atlas, Greg Hackett, Bernie The Boxer, Shawn Porter, etc.... all talked about the work Crawford did throughout the fight, not just the second half. Including the body shots he gave Madrimov in the 4th round that put him on caution street and fearful of throwing anything beyond just a jab to the body. And even if you want to ignore the experienced boxing minds I mentioned, the actual video of the bout, etc...... Explain to me that if Madrimov was the one landing all of the flush shots on Crawford and Crawford was the one struggling......How it's it that Madrimov's face was the only one battered so bad that he didn't want to be seen the rest of the weekend without a pair of huge sunglasses. How is it that it was Madrimov who had the doctors in his corner in between rounds and after the fight.... All of that is in the video. We saw the boxing official do nothing more than take Crawford's gloves and hand him the title. Are you saying that 10 rounds of Madrimov couldn't do the damage of 2 rounds of Crawford?............Mr. "Bud Fanboy".......please make it make sense for the people.......lol.
