Oh god please. I don’t hate Crawford. I just see him with clear eyes. You obviously have no idea what you are seeing when you watch a fight. That’s ok. You’re a new fan. Fine. I understand completely. Hopefully in a few more years that will change if you apply yourself.

Top fighters don’t do that anymore. That’s why top fighters are anonymous compared to fighters from years past. Case in point, Deontay Wilder. If he told 100 people on the street that he was a professional athlete, 99 of them would ask him what it’s like to play against LeBron James.

Mikey Garcia goes nowhere near Crawford. However, this won’t stop Garcia from calling out GGG.

We don't know about Crawford yet, he is superior to Horn, but who isn't?! He should be fighting Spence right now instead of the joker!

I don’t think your being fair, no casual fan really knows any American boxer, it’s not just Wilder it’s all of them. Boxing is a very much a niche sport at this point in a America.

Agreed, but it all comes down to greedy promotion and the unwillingness to let fighters fight off-TV, in small, regional venues...like they did in the old days.

Boxing, when done right, is still the best, most dramatic sport out there. Here’s an analogy for you.

100 people (not necessarily sports fans) come to an intersection and see the following:

Aaron Judge on one corner smashing baseballs as far as he can, LeBron James and Kevin Durant playing one-on-one on another corner, Messi shooting penalty kicks on another corner, and two skillful (not the most elite, just skillful) fighters throwing hands at each other at last corner, which draws the biggest crowd? Rhetorical question, but I’ll give you an answer...the corner where they’re fighting.

Doubtful but okay. Rodney Dangerfield once joked “I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.”

The fighters don’t want to do it, even if the promoters did allow it these guys won’t want to do it. They care about money and big fights only.

Someone else brought this analogy to me, but there are a few problems with it. First of all you have to do similar big events like AJ vs Wilder, golden state vs Cavaliers or Real Madrid vs Barcelona champions league final. If all are on at the same time majority will probably watch the football because that is the biggest sport and then maybe the boxing over the NBA.

We have to agree to disagree on this one. I think the onus is on the promoters, especially considering the promotional contracts restrict a fighter from fighting without approval from the promoter. Plus, I believe fighters tend to have a VERY inflated sense of self confidence and sometimes delusional belief in their abilities. This is to say that they are a generally fearless bunch.

Regarding the analogy: I intentionally cited skillful boxers and elite athletes from the other sports to make the point that a good fight attracts a crowd.

I’ll take your version and build on it. If two elite fighters, think Floyd vs Manny, are fighting each other, I believe the Warriors and Cavs or Real Madrid and Barcelona players will immediately stop dribbling and shooting to watch the fight.

I’m not sure what is in their contracts if that is the case then I guess the promoter is to blame. However I still maintain that these fighters probably won’t want it, only the really disciplined ones would the ones in it just for money won’t and that’s the majority. I don’t blame them this ain’t football (soccer) or Golf this is taking a punch for a living.

I doubt they would stop because they have match to get on with loool but I agree that most the world would tune into that but that’s because boxing doesn’t have schedules like the other sport, so really a May vs Pac fight is probably a one off in history whereas the other matches are very much a realistic option in the future if you get what I mean.

I’m not sure what’s in a fighter’s contract. However, both Haymon and Arum are graduates of Harvard Law. That said, I’m sure both guys know how to protect THEIR interests. I believe most boxers would prefer to sharpen their skills under the lights of sanctioned matches, where they get paid to do so, rather than in a gym, where they are likely spending money to pay sparring partners. Plus this would help keep their weights in check, since they wouldn’t have the time to blow up between fights.

I’m not sure it’s in Arums or Bob interest to only have them fight under big lights because most fighters fight 2 times a year so realistically they could have them fight an extra 2 times off tv whilst maintaining there usual tv appearance. I just think it’s the way they do things now, I can’t tell you why probably both parties are happy with how it is going so they do it that way.

I doubt both parties are happy about fighting twice a year. The fighters generally hate training camps. That said, I believe they’d enjoy fighting more often...for pay.

The promoters are the ones tied to TV dates. They want those advertising dollars to cover the purses. PBC is feeling the pain of this business model as they have way more fighters than TV can support. At some point I expect fighters will flee the PBC.
