Terence Crawford had just put on a masterful and destructive performance in a fight for the undisputed WW title. There hasn’t been a one sided beating at this level on the same weight class since Donald Curry dispatching Milton McCrory. How does the Crawford that we just saw against Spence do against Curry that fought Colin Jones and Milton McCrory?
There might have been a very-very brief period in curry’s career ( about a year ) where he was a tad sharper than Crawford and mostly because he peaked so much younger. But looking at them in an overall sense and for the long haul, Terrence Crawford is the better fighter. That said it’s a bit of a toss up for me how the Crawford of last night would do against the curry who beat Milton Mccroy. I don’t want to take anything away from Crawford’s performance but we have to remember that the man he fought had only been in the ring once in three years and at one point had to recover from a very bad auto accident. Not to mention being 33 years old
I feel like u stole this from me lol but as much as I like Curry he just didn't have the upside that Crawford has. That said, his fights against another technician, Starling, are some of the finest displays of chess matches. Like Mr magoo said, Curry may have been sharper but overall Crawford will b ranked higher for most.
I was actually trying to find a Crawford vs Curry thread on the classic forum before creating this thread but couldn’t find any. I agree that prime Curry was extremely sharp but just didn’t have the intangibles that Crawford possessed that made him a complete fighter. Curry vs Starling 2 is one of my favorite high level technical matches to watch. Just a well fought and highly skilled fight.
I'm messing with you I didn't create a thread but in one here rating Crawfords place in history I floated Currys name. Completely agree. Up until the Honeyghan fight he still was deadly even teased as a potential opponent for the fab 4. The first fight is good too. Starling is on here but I haven't seen him post in a while. Probably busy but hope he's okay. Curry I hope is well too another Texas guy like Spence.
