Exactly. It's so bizarre that before the first fight it was promoted as the fight for p4p number 1, now after a great first match and just a month away it's only a fight between 'two of the best' and HBO and the boxing world generally doesn't seem to care as much. Ward and Kovalev are both better than GGG and Canelo, and Ward-Kovalev is almost certainly going to be super tight, while there are more uncertainties with GGG-Canelo and the public's hinging on faith. Ward-Kovalev is still THE fight in boxing.

hard to explain the outcome of the fight, then. Oh wait, I think I can explain your comment. Diaz is an olympic gold medalist being beat by a guy who didn't make the US team.

In terms of stamping career greatness a clear win for Ward or Kovalev would be greater than a clear win for GGG or Canelo.

That's very debatable, what's not debatable is that Canelo/GGG is more important overall for boxing.

#1A vs. #1B at light heavyweight, both top p4p guys... ( I suppose the latter statement is true of Golovkin vs. Canelo as well, but Canelo's middleweight title reign is comprised of TWO fights, neither against real middleweights) Golovkin should rip through him with ease. We already know Ward vs. Kovalev is going to provide high-octane, world-class skill and be a tightrope walk, based on last time.

Of course GGG-Canelo is more important for boxing as a whole. So is Mayweather-Mcgregor. But we're hardcore boxing fans here, so let's acknowledge how important a fight is for a boxer's historical legacy first. It's just that Ward-Kovalev is being pushed to the side more than it should now that GGG-Canelo is happening.

I am going to start calling Crawford "The Bum Maker." They are going to beat him or be his "toughest test" until he fights them and then they become bums. Why fight Pac because he will just be "past his prime and no good" when Crawford beats him.

Exactly. By that appeal to casuals logic, Canelo vs. JCC Jr. was "bigger" than Ward vs. Kovalev, even though in reality, within the vacuum of the sport itself and not worrying about what kind of circus act will draw more attention to boxing from the outside/mainstream, Canelo vs. Jr. was almost completely insignificant while this LHW rematch is probably the biggest deal of the rest of 2017.

First off, NO, Floyd-Mcgregor is not more important for boxing than Ward/Kovalev. And let's stop using that pompous ""hardcore fans" vs "casuals" angle it makes you guys sound like hipsters. Maybe you simply feel slighted cause you think Ward -Kovalev is "being pushed to the side" but it's not, simply put GGG/Canelo promises to be a more exciting fight and it's relevance is around the same level as Ward/Kova.

Gamboa, past it smaller fighter. Jeane, smaller scrub. Molina Jr. bum. Lundy, smaller fighter. Diaz, rugged but limited smaller fighter.

Diaz lost the fight, but I gave him one round that he clearly deserved, also Diaz landed quite a few right hooks, actually stunned Crawford with it....................opponents should watch that fight.

The referee was a damned crook for the Beltran fight, Beltran was knocked down with a head butt, ref called it a knock down, Beltran clearly got a knock down at the end of the round, good thing he knocked his opponent out or the referee and juges would have cheated him, ref was a clear crook.............

    Meh.

This kind of intentionally-obtuse, agenda-transparent reductive logic can be used to argue that someone like SRR was a bum.
