They go from July-July as opposed to Jan-Dec. It's still for the previous year, just not the calendar year.

How does a win over Jeff Horn get you fighter of the year, absolute joke. If Usyk beats Breidis and Gassiev back to back he's easily fighter of the year...

 

It goes from July to June so Crawford actually had 2 fights and he held all 4 belts in his weight class which had not been done for nearly 2 decades. Was that enough? It's a beauty contest and there is no right answer. But seriously there are not "8 boxers" who accomplished more in the last year

 

I think Joshua should have had it. With his win over Klitchko, although maybe since that was over a year ago it does not apply to now.
