I wont lie, Oscar has a legit chance. Bud has never faced the type of power and explosiveness that Oscar had at the lighter weights. So a Crawford victory isnt a given. However, I think the mind wins out here -- Bud is a smarter, more versatile fighter than DLH by leaps and bounds. Oscar had a subpar ring IQ and had no idea how to change strategies mid-fight. I think Bud would adjust to DLH's style and ultimately outclass him.
Not being sarcastic at all, how do you envision that happening? Oscar isnt outboxing Crawford, and one of them had a long history of fading late in big fights while Bud gets better the longer a fight goes. Oscar's only path to win would be by stoppage. And its not an impossible path, but what is an unlikely path is Oscar besting Bud in deep waters.
He was all the things, but Oscar had more weaknesses that Crawford could expose than vice versa. Oscar, unlike say Leonard, couldn't make mid-fight adjustments. He was ultimately robotic and unimaginative.
I'll take Oscar in a close one over the protected Arum fighter. the level of competition for each is night and day, ODLH much more battle tested and I dont think Crawford's methodical work rate will gas Oscar in this one.. Oscar should last and outpoint here imo,
ODLH stated on multiple occasions that he hates fighting southpaws and I think Bud would notice how much trouble he gives DLH early on when he switches southpaw and would keep circling to his right, around Oscar’s jab, and would just keep shooting 1-2s and turning him with check hooks. I think Bud probably keeps Oscar on the end of those long, spindly arms for most of the fight before turning up the pressure and pace when he sees Oscar fading. It would essentially be Sweet Pea all over again except Bud is meaner, bigger, and hits harder. I think Crawford is a really bad matchup for Oscar in all honesty.
Is this one of the only cases where most people would pick the stronger less proven fighter (Crawford) over more proven but weaker fighter (Oscar)?
