Tonights train wreck of a Heavyweight Title fight got me thinking about how a 400 year old Mormeck stacks up against the worst challengers in history. Better than Johnny Paycheck? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBiyX9oDgNE[/ame] Frazier only had about 10 fights and had no hope in hell against Holmes. Embarrassing for all involved. Marvis had a solid amateur background and a couple of wins over solid prospects. His gameplan was all wrong, but he wasn't a bad fighter at all IMO. Certainly a better challenger than Mormeck.
He only had 10 fights though, **** knows what his team were thinking putting him in against Holmes with such little experience, its a huge leap from an old Bugner to challenging Larry Holmes. I agree he's a better challenger than Mormeck though. Can you think of any other challengers that compare to Mormecks level hopelessness?
Did he ever fight for it? I'll ad Audley Harrison, and Michael Bentt maybe? even though he beat Morrison, on paper it was a terrible mismatch.
I think this guy is probably the worst ever. And it wasn't for some bull**** alpha either http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=11543&cat=boxer
Ali fought Jean-Pierre Coopman and Richard Dunn in 1976. They were worse than Mormeck. Audley Harrison was beyond bad. Pete Rademacher had 0 professional fights when he challenged Floyd Patterson for the world title in the 50s. There have been some shocking ones over the years.
He had a chronic eye problem that was only going to get worse as time went by so they took the decision to take the title shot early.
