Hopkins was a very awkward fighter. Anybody you see being a very hard match up for him and beating him.

Guys who have the discipline to out-wait him who are excellent counter-punchers might trouble him. Obviously extreme speed will cause anyone problems. Combine these and you have his cryptonite.

    Roy Jones
    Charley Burley
    Lloyd Marshall
    James Toney.

I’d have to add the obvious choice of Ray Robinson, who was not only the most elite of the elite but also has everything you listed, including the ring IQ.

And going further with your assessment, I’d suggest Chris Eubank might be a stylistic nightmare for the Executioner, albeit a dreadfully dull matchup.

I would have to agree that extreme speed would be the key against him. He feasted on sluggers and was excellent at taking away the jab from some excellent boxers. Oh yeah, aside from Calzaghe he really didn't have trouble with southpaws either. I honestly think Bhop is one of the most complete fighters ever. He could box or brawl and was a master at taking away the strength of his opponents.

A stylistically wide spectrum of elite boxers beat him, from Monzon to Calzaghe.

Quick, awkward guys and those with better physical tools who push the pace and dictate distance. And, oh yes, physical freaks like Roy, few as they may be.

I agree except i don't see Calzaghe beating the Hopkins that beat Tito

Monzon, Hagler, Jones Jr. Ray Robinson would all be favoured over him. I would give a 50-50 shot to Toney. McCullum would have a good chance as well.

I think a younger Calzaghe dominates any version of Hop.

Sugar Ray Robinson would out quick Bernard Hopkins.

Tommy Hearns would be a tough style as well. BHop is gonna have to take alot of chance and expose his chin more than he liked to.

Hagler would be a nightmare for Hopkins. The only way I can see Hopkins winning is on a cut maybe

The fighters I pick to beat him at 160, are Charles, Robinson, Greb* and Jones. Maybe a few others depending on how I'm feeling. I've long thought that Hopkins was on par with Monzon and Hagler, and could beat (or lose to) both on a given night.

I think Jones and SRR are the most awkward matches for him. I agree with George that he'd be every chance of beating Hagler and Monzon and pretty much anyone else as well.

Hopkins beat the worst crop of middleweights ever during his long reign. He'd struggle with dozens of the greats. Guys like Hagler and Monzon in their primes would likely batter him into clear decision defeat, and his skill in lasting the distance with them would warrant praises..

A guy like a prime Michael Nunn might have been too quick and slick even for Hopkins.

Honestly I think a guy like Gene Fulmer would mug Hopkins, he's very strong and tough and would maul Hopkins for 15 rounds and take a close decision, 9-6,8-7
