Bernard Hopkins has been one of my favourite fighters for MANY years, but I just had a chance to review his rematch with Roy Jones. I understand exactly what Bernard was doing in that he's getting older and has a hard time fighting an entire fight given fading stamina. That said, the antics he used to get time, and the facial expressions, and the ridiculous performances he was putting on with fouls... sigh. Bernard has been one of the dirtiest fighters around, and I'm COMPLETELY fine with that. I don't mind a fighter being dirty, but don't be a ****ing ***** about it when you get it back. That was so ****ing pathetic. I'm utterly disgusted by what he did in that fight, particularly against his all-time rival. If there was EVER a fight where a man can lose the fight, but win the event, THIS was that fight. Roy Jones earned respect, Bernard lost respect in this fight. So disappointed in Hopkins.
yep, hopkins stunk out the joint big time, i hope he didnt think that his little flurries after the bell did anything to make people forget the shitty performance he put on
Bernard never matured. Not completely. He's the same guy from the Echols fights. Probably the same guy from the circa 70's playgrounds he played in as a child. It never happens for some people.
I'm a firm believe of "Win under any circumstances", but wow. Hopkins really crossed the line in this fight.
Well, it was like he was doing a combination of two things. (a) Try to buy time to recover himself near the end of rounds with about twenty seconds left, so he could put on one big flurry before the end of the round. (b) Possibly get Roy disqualified and take home the bigger percentage of the purse. I can "understand" (a), but (b) is ****ing despicable.
I've never questioned his talent, ability, his greatness. He'll always be an All-Timer, but even right after the fight, holding the back of his head with a pained expression on his face... come the **** on. I was personally embarrassed by that ****.
I'd agree, but Hopkins has an extensive history of flopping. I wouldn't put it all down to his need to buy time the way some have. Disqualifications, yes.
It was in fact hilarious though when Hopkins attacked Jones after the first act of his performance. He flailed and wailed on him like a little kid. :rofl
embarrasing performance.maybe he should hang em up because he was fightin a shot fighter & it still looked like he was tryin to find a way out of the fight.
PARTICULARLY from a guy like Hopkins, who goes on and on about his mental strength and street mentality.
Yep, and I hate to think he was doing it to get disqualifications because I think more of than that... but it really all adds up. He wanted to be sure that the guy who won by stoppage by any means got 60%. So, this **** was probably even premeditated. Sigh.
