Terry Flanagan

I am unable to post balanced, unbiased opinions on Catterall mate, same with BJS. I’m a sucker for skilful southpaws.

 

I think that’s what’s next for him. Go back to the domestic scene and slug it out there. Davies, Catterall, McKenna, Leather, Foot, maybe even do a Manchester/Liverpool derby thing, you’ve got Tom Farrell, Robbie Davies. There’s good domestic fights to be made there.

 

And just a quick word on Prograis. Quality. What a potential fight him v Taylor will be.

 

Feel sorry for Flanagan.

The fight with crolla was tailor when both of them had world titles. He'd have more than likely schooled crolla, get exposure and a decent little payday.

 

I thought and said as much at the time but now I’m looking back and thinking would he really? Crolla in his prime KOing Perez, Barroso and having a decent go against Linares was his peak. I struggle to think of Flanagan’s peak? He’s always been a sort of “got the job done” sort of fighter there’s not been any spectacular wins or big names on his resume. I’m leaning with @Twentyman I think Catterall does him.

 

I agree I would fancy Catterrall to beat him. Flanagan never had power at LW so even worse at LWW. Same as Burns when he moved up, said at time the top domestic LWW beat him, same with Flanagan. Obviously Taylor would beat him, but so would Catterrall and Robbie Davies Jr in my opinion.

 

Terry had 1 or 2 decent rounds but for the best part was bordering on struggling. He never changed it up even tho it was obvious things weren't working and even though it might not of made much difference he never tried anything else.

Don't want to sound like I am sticking the boot in with Flanagan, but he is a one dimensional one paced fighter. Is a world level LW but not at LWW.

 

It's hard to pinpoint a peak because he was getting fed absolute dross from the WBO wastelands. His best win was petrov which granted, doesn't stand out.

Styles wise I always fancied Flanagan over Crolla, shame we never got to it when both were holding titles

 

Flanagan has always been limited. He's good at what he does but can't adjust his style. He's the quintessential pigeon holed UK fighter who has sound technique, straight punches and high guard (Rigid amateur style) but he can't fight out of that mold.

He's limited in his offense, terribly limited. His set ups are so predictable it's a huge weakness at this level, he can only counter but even then. He doesn't feint or probe to draw leads to counter. He just waits.

He's called Turbo. Remind me why? It's not his work rate because he can only appear to fight at a tempo as a reactive fighter. Great heart & all that, hung in there.

Well done Prograis, boxed really well. Him and Taylor is one we're awaiting.

 

Crolla there to counter all night, at 135 that gives him a chance but he's limited. Could you imagine him VS Luke Campbell, lowest punch out put ever.

 

Has there ever Been a less known British world champion than Turbo Tez?

 

Can't believe there was a considerable amount of people giving Flanagan a chance.

He had two chances: slim and none, and slim had left town.

 

Had to watch it in work with no sound what sort of advice was Steve Maylett giving in the corner?

Glad Terry didnt get wrecked like a lot of people predicted but he really needs to add more variety to his attack.

 

Terry has done wonders even bagging a world title in his career. He is very limited but has done well with it. However the train has stopped, he was never really in the mix beating top top level fighters. He had a padded record really and it showed as soon as he stepped up.
