I'm not really sure how good he was. He was undefeated. Anyone care to give us some info on Terry Marsh please? :?
He was decent fighter, not a big puncher but liked to get in close, throw a lot of punches and trade on his exception fitness and workrate. Was also prone to cuts but seemed to have a decent chin. The problem vs Mayweather would be having to get in close a nullifing the right hand, and I'm not sure he could keep Gatti off him. Style wise is he could pressure Witter without taking too many on the way in then it would be an interesting fight and probably his best bet of victory out of the 3 fighters named.
I recall big matches v Hector Camacho & Lloyd Honeyghan @ 147 were mentioned, but then the epilepsy issue arose and the rest is history It is difficult to judge an undefeated fighter who early retired through through health problems. Honeyghan would have been too powerful, but like Hatton going up to 147. but Marsh did not even have Hatton's power. Camacho would have been too fast
marsh turned pro at 23 ,did not have much of a punch and was what you would call an orthodox boxer in stance and style and relied on his left hand to score points ,in his 16th fight he made people domestically take notice when he beat clinton mckenzie by a good margin on pts for the british light-welterweight tittle in 84(mckenzie was way more experienced than marsh when they met) the nexy year he showed he could rumble when cut by a headbutt in a european tittle fight he stopped italian scapecchi ,he sprang into a two fisted attack which put the italian down and shortly after scapecchi got up and continued he was saved by the ref.and it was later revealed that marsh had broken a bone in his left hand early in the fight.marsh beat joe louis manley for the ibf tittle in 87 and marsh chose to not but attack two fisted from the out set and stopped manley in the 10th i think.marsh only made one defence and that was against akio kameda (i may have got his name wrong) marsh was badly cut and the fight was close to being stopped marsh again forced a stoppage in the 6th at one point he raised his arms and let the jap hit his body while marsh just smiled back at his challenger.after this fight marsh announced he had been diagnosed with a form of epilepsy so had to retire, marsh never fought a top american the two he would of probably had to of fought would of been frankie warren and buddy mcgirt both of hoom i think would of beaten him. marsh was a former marine and during his boxing career was a fireman
Sorry yeah Camacho was at 140. He was at ringside for a Marsh fight and had the distinctive 'Machoman' gold chain on.
marsh would have to try and get inside as he would not be able outbox mayweather ,mayweather had a good right hand over 12 rounds i see marsh getting stopped late on and probably cut gatti possibly gets inside and outworks marsh but marsh use his trusty left and stay outside long enough to win the early rounds i think it a pick-em and is to close to call witter i think again is very close i think marsh just nicks it but again its a pickem marsh also once debated some professors from the british medical association at the cambridge union on a motion of should this house of learning ban boxing (or some simalar tittle) and marsh won 135 votes to 50
Marsh had the 'will' and fitness (and boxing skills) to beat anyone. I would fancy him to better Gatti and Mayweather over here (possibly not in the States) and Witter in a war. Marsh, a London schoolboy chess champion, Royal Marine and fireman, had a winner's mentality and simply broke fighters' hearts because he refused to lose.
marsh was mostly a boxer useing his left a lot how do you see him getting inside mayweathers jab and mayweather had a ***** of a right.marsh never though anyone close to mayweather in class and do you think he would of beaten mcgirt i watched the manley fight again few weeks ago great performance from marsh and not his usual display but manley was not a top champ
Al how do you see a marsh hatton fight going i think its pretty close but then i think hatton has been overated or even marsh dave boy green
I take your point but a lot of American fighters are overrated and get 'em over here and even the greatest fighter ever, Sugar Ray Robinson, can be licked, although his was a case of HIM underrating Turpin. Ask yourself this: would Colin Jones have licked Milton McCrory on these shores? Yes he would - both times. Mayweather was classy and dangerous but flakey under pressure (and still is) and Marsh would have been on his chest. McGirt is a tough one, a man I really rate. Again it boils down to home advantage. In the States, Buddy wins.
i agree with you about jones ,and true mayweather was flakey i just think marsh may of picked up to much faceial damage getting inside marsh was not a puncher but mayweather was chiny so marsh i will concede has a chance ,i do feel marsh has a better chance against gatti who i feel is overated
