It's a shame the only footage of McGovern (AFAIK) is the fix against Gans, with a crappy frame rate. Though I'm not sure if McGovern was in on the fix, but Gans offered so little back, not a lot can be taken from it. This content is protected He didn't fight in the UK either, which is often an easy way to get more descriptive fight reports.
Flea Man's brilliant article on McGovern painted a real clear picture of him, in my view. It's what got me much more interested in McGovern. Sounded like an awesome style of power and underrated movement.
You can see in the footage he sold of hold a Max Schmeling posture on the outside, slightly back and crouched to the side, then can lean in too quickly get closer. I'll need to read that article and some fight reports on him.
Yep. Makes the opponent reach with punches, combined with head movement allows for swarming quickly. Clever, but short lived for prime years.
I think McGovern would look amazing on the tape, such a shame that we only have short footage of him in (likely) fixed fight...
