One of my favorite showcases of pure-boxing. Kalambay was masterful. I think I'm going to have to watch their second encounter again soon. Can't remember how I had that one scored.

I wonder if Rooster would pick Norris over the likes of Tiger and Hagler.

I like Terry he is a true beast but his chin was made of china. He is in no way underrated--it is more proper to say that others are overrated. I remember that Don King wanted to have him face Chavez as both men cleaned our their divisions. I think Tito beats him at 147 though and Sergio beats him at 154.

Norris was very, very good. Excellent technical boxer with good power and speed.

His problem was that he was desperately trying to break into boxing's big time; he wanted to be a superstar, but he just didn't have the competition to help him elevate his status.
I think he thought his big break came when he beat Leonard, but even then, Norris just didn't become the household name that he thought his talent merited.
Evetually, he started to resort to calling out the much smaller JC Chavez, and then became frustrated when Chavez didn't seem keen.
He was keen on fighting Whitaker as well, but again was met with little enthusiasm.

I think there was a little bit of bully inside Norris. He was perfectly content to beat up smaller welters like Taylor and Blocker, but didn't seem keen to move up himself.

Norris's chin problems are overstated. I mean you dont spend as much time fighting inrange and unloading on the opponent as much as he did and not be able to hold onto a decent shot every now and then. Having said that his chin issues cant be overlooked. It wasn't stellar and I believe he may of got knocked against Tito. He probably would have a better shot at beating Oscar because of how robotic Oscar is and how fluid, quick, and athletic Norris was, although its no forgone conclusion because Oscar could really punch with the left hook

I dont think Norris is underrated anymore. Not since he got more notoriety through the internet Boxing fans. If anything someone like Ike Quartey is underrated. IMO he beat Oscar & Forrest, and had a close fight with Vargas.

One punch from the Hawk and he was iced. Where do we go from here? He can't take a punch, end of story.

Terry Norris is lucky he came around before this age of internet haters and fanboys. Can you imagine how badly the Glass-mandible crew around these forums would've shredded him down? As it is, he is still recognised as a great fighter today and is affored more respect than certain great fighters of the eras since who suffered knockout losses. He's just not extremely overrated like many old-timers and greats of recent past have been which make some people feel he goes unappreciated, and in a certain respect he is underappreciated compared to the hype other past fighters get

Extremely difficult to rank. At his best he was a fantastic offensive fighter, and to echo what others have said, while his chin wasn't great it wasn't quite the silly putty that legend has it. He could recover from flush shots and fight back, and it was only exceptional punchers who were able to finish the job in his prime.

His other weakness was his lack of self-control in the ring. Whether it was brawling with Brown in their first fight, or one of his numerous DQ losses (which could easily have included the Leonard fight if SRL had made a big deal of it), he was liable to do something stupid and cost himself the fight.

It's easy to envisage him putting on a clinic and/or blowing away some highly regarded fighters, but at the same time you can see him losing to just about any near-great fighter around his weight class.

Julian Jackson could do that to any opponent on any given day. It's ridiculous to believe that someone has a glass jaw based on being iced by JJ.
