...as for any of the other boxers, or the mixed-martial-artists competing on the undercard? I could not tell ya, nor could I care less.

 

Looking at the title...not one person's name doesn't make me at least a little upset, for one reason or another.

 

Tervel Venkov Pulev vs. Joel John Shojgreen, 8 rounds @ cruiserweight

 

Round 1

Shojgreen is backed into a corner, pawing out jabs. Pulev advancing behind a left jab, showing it high-low with feints before stepping in, and slicing a right at Shojgreen's throat backing him into another corner. Ref already having to get a handle on things as fouls pile up early both ways. Pulev grabs Shojgreen in a headlock. Shojgreen misses a counter hook coming up from a crouch and twisting at the hips as Pulev backs out. Pulev waving his left glove out like a tomahawk, knocking down Shojgreen's jab. Another headlock applies by Pulev as he rushes in and Shojgreen holds. A few right hands feinted at the body from Shojgreen but he doesn't pull trigger. Pulev does, and Shojgreen scurries away. Right on the body from Shojgreen, grazing.

Round 2

Shojgreen is trading jabs with the Bulgarian, interrupting his arrhythmic halting advances. Lots of steps taken and then retracted. Both men very twitchy. Pulev a bit calmer. Shojgreen tries rights on the body and left hooks coming inside, but Pulev catches it all on his arms. Pulev with yet another headlock as he jabs in and Shojgreen dives in to clinch. Shojgreen down from a headbutt. Patty cake with the jab. Pulev leaps at him with a straight flurry and Shojgreen is driven into the ropes and bounces off them clinching Pulev. Jab up top, right on the body, left hook on the head by Pulev, disrupting Shojgreen's defense and keeping his gloves moving around to intercept. Shojgreen appears hurt and does a backward somersault but not ruled a knockdown, bell sounds anyway.

Round 3

Shojgreen is down early doors. Unlcear if the ref actually ruled it a KD. Bulgarian commentators are talking so loudly I can't hear the American ones (in the underlaying audio layer). Shojgreen with a little bravado, waving Pulev in, daring him to come for the finish. Pulev stalks, keeping his left forearm turned vertically on a right angle, his elbow thrust far out from his chest. Pulev setting up with the jab, starting to dance around Shojgreen now, chopping with right hands and left hooks. Shojgreen down - this one absolutely no question a legit KD off a straight right lead and left hook combo flush on the chin. Shojgreen up but getting swarmed. Pulev with body shots in the clinch. Shojgreen makes the bell.

Okay, that's pretty damn funny.

And yeah, the only forgivable aspect of this level opponent is that in fairness TP was coming directly off the Kovalev loss. Next time out needs to be a step up or he can **** off with his stupid go-nowhere career forever.

It was a poor and ugly performance from both. No reason he should've needed to resort to all those headlocks and rabbit punches. Shojgreen has a glass everything (body, chin, neck) so even three rounds is longer than it ought to have gone.

 

Hearing the Bulgarian commentators puzzle over how to pronounce "Shojgreen" was a real treat. My beef with Pulev's name is petty and irrational, but: look at Mr. Fancy Pants with a three word name that has a "v" in each, one in the middle, one at the first position and one at the last. ...and it doesn't roll off the tongue at all.

Robledo's annoying because I originally put his full name as "Ricardo Sonny Robledo" and agonized over how to fit everything in the RBR title because it went a character over the limit, only to come to find out that many places incorrectly list Sonny as his middle name when really it's a nickname (like, what people call him IRL, and "The Bear" is his ring moniker).

As for "Tyrrell Xavier Washington"...
