Headlining - on Friday @ the Liacouras Center in Philly - the very next televised card in all of boxing around the globe, snapping a drought of five days that begins today. IBF super featherweight title at stake, 3rd defense of Farmer.

Baresford, aka Jono Carroll, is ranked #4 by the IBF at 130lbs - although in reality only Guillaume Frenois stands ahead of him at #3, as the first two spots are currently vacant. Baresford and Frenois met in December in an eliminator, and fought to a draw. The challenger, a light-hitting but tough & ornery swarmer hailing from Dublin, is crossing the pond for the first time in his career - at least in this direction. His debut and sophomore pro bouts were both fought in Australia; the remainder have been on the European continental plate.

Farmer is heavily favored to retain (1/7 at the bookies) yet there is one distinct advantage Baresford might have over him. That recent eliminator draw with Frenois was a southpaw vs. southpaw match-up, whereas Farmer hasn't seen a fellow lefty in the ring since the year 2016, when he faced two in a row (Ivan Redkach and Orlando Rizo)

I rate Farmer,he has skills to burn and I really enjoy watching him.We don’t have many active guys like that at the moment, who can keep in range and evade shots with the intention of countering.

I like Jono,he is a brave guy,and solid enough but this is a bad stylistic match up for him.I see him getting a mercy stoppage to be honest.

I think farmer will stop him, not that he’s a big puncher but jonjo gets tagged way to much farmer just needs to go head body head and he will hit his target all night.

    Easy work for farmer.

Carroll will win this walking away. And by stoppage.

Yes... but. That's not why I'm choosing Carroll to win. I'm choosing him because I genuinely think he will. I'll explain why later. I'm eating something at the moment, that requires a fork.

Farmer is good. Really good. I have to admit i wasn't really high on him a couple of years ago but he proved me wrong. Looked fantastic in his last fights. He'll probably shutout Carroll here. Carroll is a wild swinging slugger with no defense. I like Farmer by late stoppage too. But think it'll be a clear UD (10-2 like).

I view this as a very winnable fight for Jono, obviously I'm a fan, hence why I did the thread on him, but.... although I didn't say much at the time, I was quietly terrified he was going to be beaten by Frenois, I thought he was going to give Jono hell. Frenois, is as tough as nails, and slippery as hell, I rate him so highly I think he could possibly beat Farmer himself. He's another one of those super slick Frenchmen like Mimoune, Attou, N'Dam, Vitu, Oubaali and Soro, that you and I have a soft spot for, although you're far more vocal about it. He has some pretty respectable wins himself, over guys like Ziani, who's a very solid pressure fighter well rounded Euro level guy and Gusev who's not bad either, Frenois beat him about as easily as GRJ. So I don't hold that close fight against Jono. Also you have to take into consideration, who has Farmer beaten as of late? Dib is awful, and Tevin got rocked to his core in that one, if Dib had the wherewithal to finish him, he could have. Also the lack of power is shocking. Miura another southpaw carved through Dib like a bullet through warm butter. Fonseca is not great, and he lost the last few rounds to him, quite frankly every round after the 6th was ridiculously competitive. Gervonta looked like hell in their fight and still managed to win almost every round and stop him. I thought Ogawa did enough to legit deserve the decision over Farmer and IIRC Pedraza chose to fight in the southpaw position when he managed to stop Farmer.

Tevin is up against it here, Jono has an underrated skillset, he brings a rugged inside game while in close, he's a consistent body puncher, has deceptive defense, good head movement, he slips punches quite well when he actually tries to, has a decent jab, and as you said, he's a swarmer, and a good one, he's hard to adequately prepare for, he's not as predictable as people seem to think. Carroll isn't as fragile or as one dimensional Tennyson, and is better than DIb who had his moments, and easily better than Fonseca, quite frankly, he's better than Ogawa. So... yeah, don't act like this is some foregone conclusion here. Farmer's recent list of "big wins"..... aren't. Put this match into its proper perspective. Just who exactly has Farmer beaten that's impressive? And don't say Ogawa, because he didn't. Carroll's draw against Frenois was better than anything Farmer has done to date.

Farmer easy UD, might even get a late stoppage if the ref is merciful.

Disagree. Watch more Jono if you haven't already. This is one of those "easy defenses" that go awry.
