cooney would blow him away ... too sturdy for galanto to get to him ... cobb ... galato is the one fighter he might beable to out box and look good agianst... and galanto dosn't have anything to get to cobb with so there wouldnt be much for him to do but get smacked around and made fun of by the legend... wepner?.. galanto gets this one .. wepner has absolutly nothing that'd get galanto out of there or hurt and he busts up too easy for galanto not to stop on cuts
1. Cooney- I'd pick him to beat Galento and handely at that... 2. Cobb - 50/50 here. Could go either way. 3. Wepner - Chuck would give him some rounds, but Tony Takes him apart..
Cooney would kayo Galento in three rounds.Cobb would decison him in a war. Wepner, it is about 50/50.
If Galento hits Cooney like he did Joe Louis the ref would count to 100 before he'd get up....Galento would beat the crap out of Chuck Wepner..and Cobb would go the limit either winning or losing a sloppy decision.
Agreed. Galento-Cooney comes down to punch resistance as well as power. Gerry likely connects first, but Tony stood up to bombs from the Baer brothers, and got up to return the favor to Louis. When Max Baer nearly did deck Two-Ton, Galento weathered the follow-up attack. Quickness, stamina (when in his best condition), resilience and peak experience are all in Tony's favor. When Galento decked the Bomber, he did it by actually beating Joe to the punch. Cooney is not matching hand speed with Tony, who had a better right than Gerry as well. Wepner is not outcheating Tony, beating him to the punch, or matching power with Galento. In fact, Two Ton has the better, quicker jab, a punch he was known to effectively double up on when he chose. Chuck has nothing to hurt Tony with. Galento takes this one on cuts fairly early. Tex was not a bleeder, possessed decent stamina at his best, and a heavy jab. I too believe Cobb goes the distance with Galento, but that this sloppy decision is a clear UD for Tex. He was much stronger than Cooney physically (if deficient in punching leverage), and never took a backwards step against Norton, making Ken counter almost exclusively off the ropes. (In fact, I don't recall a backwards step against Shavers, offhand.) Mercado was another huge puncher Cobb got the best of. I don't think this is a good match for Tony, who would almost certainly be forced on the back foot, then made to fight at Tex's preferred range, not a good situation with those short arms and lack of height. Again, the key differences between Cobb and Cooney are Randy's superior physical strength, punch resistance and stamina, too much to overcome for Galento to take the decision here. However, this would be the longest and most entertaining fight of the three. Now, who wins the drinking contest between liquor salesman Chuck, bar owner Tony, or their best customer Randall?:think
