I read how strong Tex Cobb was but he was not a great puncher.Did he have "arm punches"?

Yea of course he was a tough strong guy,a first round draft pick to have on your side in a bar fight, but he didn't have the explosive 1 punch KO power of a Tyson, or Shavers, or even Cooney for that matter..
A guy who tried to get by on raw talent and a strong mental fortitude..

let me educate the morons;arm punches are thrown without a proper leg, torso or shoulder involvement, thus less power.

Randall Tex Cobb was one tough SOB :) He went 15 rounds with Larry Holmes in Houston at the final bell Tex turned to referee Steve Crosson & asked him for 3 more rounds. He said Larry couldn't hit him any more his hands hurt too much from beating on Tex's hard head. Tex then said Lets Party!!!!!!!!! Tex went to the bar for a beer Larry went to hospital for Xrays on his swollen hands

At a press conference cobb sat alongside guys like holmes, weaver, dokes, shavers and snipes. Cobb took the mic and said he was proud to be alongside such great ******s. Snipes got up mad and shouted. Aint nobody calling me a ******..cobb replied calmly with smile, i wasnt referring to you snipes...:)

He was heavy handed but was slow, and had no snap. He was an attrition style fighter who was comfortable fighting in a phone booth. He would just beat on a guy and pressure him until he quit or fatigued.

Cobb had moderate power. He wasn't very fast handed, and did not have a lot of snap on his punches.

Cobb's best stuff was brute strength, determination, and durability. I saw Cobb vs Shavers a few years ago. I thought it would be a monstrous puncher vs an iron headed anvil. The fight was disappointing. Cobb wins when Shavers gasses out, without Shavers landing his best stuff.

Regarding Cobb's durability, he really did get hit cleanly with a puncher above Kenny Norton's level. Holmes scored a lot, but the beating Cobb took in the fight was not that bad. It was just an easy one sided type of fight where Holmes lands a lot of leather and fought smart.

i know he was moderate puncher,i wonder was it because, like a berbick or chuvalo he punched improperly? and if so, been a great puncher (with his great strength) using proper form.

All i can add to it is that punching power and strength don't always go hand in hand.
