Cobb has power, great chin, terrible accuracy, slow hands Weaver has power, average chin, ok accuracy, faster hands than Cobb Who wins over 15?
I would disagree with you on Cobb re: power. I always felt he was just a clubbing type puncher. But I would add in tremendous heart. Re: Weaver, I thought his accuracy was very good. Check out his jab against Scott LeDoux. Also I would add in great stamina for Weaver whereas, Cobb himself used to say about himself - tongue-in-cheek - "I get tired climbing into the ring". Regardless, Weaver on a 15 round decision.
Cobb did not have good power. He stopped Shavers because Ernie gassed out after pounding on Cobb's chin for seven rounds and nothing happened. Ernie was more tired than anything so they stopped it. Only Cobb's HOF chin saved him in that fight. Weaver was vulnerable early, but Cobb doesn't have the power to jump on him and take him out. This would be a close fight for 7 or 8 rounds, then Weaver takes over. Weaver would win a UD by about 11-4 in rounds.
A good old 80 s scrap. Cobb hangs in there soaking up weavers best punches, but weaver wins a decision.
They were supposed to fight as one of Mike's title defenses. But there were promotional problems and then Weaver hurt his knee, if memory serves. As to the fight, one of the easier one's for Weaver considering who else was around and available at the time.
Weaver is a notorious slow starter but Cobb doesn't have the skills or power to take advantage. Cobb will soak up enormous punishment as Weaver pounds out a decision.
Weaver over Cobb, by unanimous decision, and if the scenario had gone as planned, loses to the Louisville Rage in his next defense.
