He won the title using right hand uppercuts. He has power in both hands. Foreman also said Liston's right hand was underrated after they sparred.

Shavers probably doesn't even hit significantly harder than Liston. They're about the same size and Liston actually has better wins. If Shavers power is a 10, Liston is a 9 at worst. There's more to scoring a knockout than just raw power. Liston had better timing, accuracy, and technique than Shavers and was a better finisher than him. That isn't even up for debate. It is well within the realm of possibility Liston stops Cobb who was wide open, slow, and crude.

Nope. Looks like Foreman-Chuvalo. Cobb probably ends the fight on his feet, saved by the ref.

But was his right hand in Shaver's league?
His right hand is average at best but his best weapon is left jab and hook.
I could never see anyone doing to Holmes what Shavers did with his right hand and Tex Cobb survived that.

Yes he does, hi KO percentage proves that.
Ali and Holmes faced many good punchers but everyone said that Shavers hit hardest, there is a reason he's called the hardest puncher in boxing history.
Lyle said that Foreman power is not in the same league as Shavers and Liston didn't punch like Foreman.
I don't think Liston was any better than Shavers except for speed, chin and stamina but Shavers had bigger heart.

He would not because could not KO Wepner and Scrap Johnson and Tex Cobb was better and stronger than both of them.
The man survived full fight with prime Larry Holmes and beat the hardest puncher in the boxer history plus he is very strong man himself.

Holmes wasn't a puncher by style he had some power but his jab was top notch and hard....he shook good fighters with it in an era where the heavyweights were larger and stronger than Liston's era. Liston threw a heavy jab as part of his well balanced arsenal of power and strength style. The gloves in Liston era were different than Holmes era where the gloves were becoming better padded and safer. The politics of making boxing safer or abolishing the sport was a hot topic in the 80's. Holmes had one of the best jabs in history if not the best.

I agree that Cobb would need to get stopped on cuts...unlike Wepner he really wasn't much of a bleeder. Liston would need to keep distance and avoid phonebooth warfare probably the only area Tex excelled was infighting

    That is true.

Yet there are still so many who suggest that Ali didn’t possess the punching power that he actually DID clearly display when properly set and mentally intended.

Ali was a big dude for the times, it stood to reason that he’d likely have some clout.

Even the guy who got Ali into boxing, policeman Joe Martin, later observed that Ali definitely had a punch.

Cobb had a pretty hard head, I think he hangs around and gets a shutout pitched at him.

Nothing about Liston's punching power was "average" with either hand.

He won the title by KOing Patterson using right uppercuts
He KOd Johnson with a right uppercut.
Dropped the 226 Zech with a right hand
Dropped #2 contender Folley with right hands
Staggered Bethea with a right hand that made the ref stop it. The only man to stop Bethea in fact.

Shavers KO% got as high as it did fighting several low quality opponents.

Liston KOd more ranked contenders, which is more important.

I'm not saying Liston hits as hard as Shavers, I'm saying Shavers in a league of his own compared to Liston. Lyle was KOd by Foreman and beat Shavers so you have to take that with a grain of salt.

You'd be wrong. I can make a poll and I guarantee nobody thinks Shavers and Liston have equal technique and accuracy. Not to mention finishing ability.

Liston TKOd iron chinned Bethea in 1 round. Bethea survived bombs from Valdez, Cooper, Williams, Folley, etc and Liston was the only one to stop Bethea.

Liston hits 3x as hard as Holmes. Shavers was past his prime when he fought Cobb.

Scoring a KO is an art, it's not simply about how hard you can hit.

Liston was overall better than Shavers and no matter who hit harder in a single shot, Liston KO Shavers early to mid rounds.

    Who?
Patterson was blown up LHW and who the hell was Bethea?
Did Liston ever beat a man that was bigger than him or just stagger him?
Could Liston drop men like Larry Holmes or Ron Lyle who were bigger than him?
What about Ken Norton,Bugner,Ellis and Young who were defeated by Ernie Shavers, are these you mentioned even close to them in quality ratings?
    I do not think so.
Bugner sparred with Liston but always stated that no one hit him anywhere as hard as Shavers.
Those fighters you mentioned were nobodies compared to Bugner,Norton,Ellis,Young
Henry Clark fought Sonny Liston and Shavers and said that no one hit as hard as Shavers meaning that even Liston power is nothing in terms of punching.

    So?
Chuvalo was beaten by Foreman but still he said that he is the hardest puncher he fought.
Ali lost against Frazier but still called him the toughest.

Beating better and bigger men is better than beating smaller men who were lesser boxer just because they are contenders.
Bugner,Elis,Young and Norton are better wins than Patterson and Cleveland Williams.

I can not imagine Liston catching Holmes as Shavers did with right cross not even prime Tyson could do that to old Holmes so how the hell is Shavers not accurate?

And Shavers is the first one who knocked Jimmy Young and Bugner perhaps no one knocked Bugner before and after Shavers.

Foreman was a teenager when he sparred Liston not a matured man of 25.....but Foreman was much larger and hit harder than Liston and Tex Cobb was much larger and probably stronger than Chuvalo....your logic doesn't make sense
