Sort of a high-volume light-flurrying slap-and-go Calzaghe imitating southpaw. I'm not blown away.

 

Gary O'Sullivan vs. Gábor Görbics, 8 rounds @ middleweight

 

Round 1

Görbics comes out like a house afire, up on toes, rapidly spiraling to his left, in and out around O'Sullivan peppering him with jabs and flurries. O'Sullivan catches most on the backs of his mitts and the rest he walks through disdainfully, pumping out his own hard jabs and chopping with his right so hard that Görbics' own fists bash into his face like billiards-balls, making him wince. Intense pressure by Spike, counter jabbing and now whacking the body with underhands. Görbics also flurries downstairs, ineffectively, on the run.

Round 2

O'Sullivan is mostly shelling up as he comes forward, waiting for Görbics to say his peace before getting a fistic word in edgewise. The scrappy Hungarian does have much to expound upon, as it happens. Six and seven punch blasts up on his toes, all hitting guard. A well timed counter jab or chopping right from O'Sullivan invariably sends him scrambling. Quantity versus quality, this. Right hands swapped late, O'Sullivan doing more damage.

Round 3

Görbics to his credit is taking it to Spike, putting all he can muster into big lead rights down the pipe and making contact on some, more than obliquely. Each is countered by at least one right hand in return from O'Sullivan, however (if not a quick body to head combo) so Görbics is getting the worst of it. BIG counter right by Spike jolts Görbics badly. He trots off, licks his figurative wounds a moment, and jumps into the fray again, flurrying.

Round 4

Sort of a nothing round, Görbics a lot more negative, his spine kissing the ropes for most of three minutes, balled up like a hedgehog defensively when O'Sullivan tees off. Jabs and lead rights by O'Sullivan, chipping away, splitting the gloves and letting him scratch at the face of his mobile quarry.

Round 5

O'Sullivan is tap-tap-tapping on the guard, following up without fail with a heavy clubbing right no matter whether Görbics is ducking & blocking or rolling/twisting away with his back turned. Pretty uninspired session for Spike, not really creating any openings, just following Görbics around with the same repeating sequence ad nauseum. Görbics mildly stuns him leaping off the ropes with a counter ambush flurry late. Spike laughs.

Round 6

Some mighty whiffs by O'Sullivan, loading up on big overhand shots in pursuit. Kind of embarrasing the way Görbics is able to roll fully clear to one side at times, leaving Spike to swing and miss in exaggerated fashion looking amateurish. Görbics occasionally standing in and throwing as hard as he can, tickling Spike's chin with straight rights or upper flurries, but Spike always nails him with big enough counter right to make him flee. Every time he clips Görbics the commentators - who speak mostly in Gaelic but 15% of times in heavily-brogued English - get all worked into a frenzy, expecting the KO.
