Jomthong has chance to make fighting history. A relative beginner to the game of boxing with just 3 fights, most recently capturing the WBC Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation super-featherweight championship by defeating South Korea's Dong-Kyuk Kim on May 29. Although Jomthong's relative inexperience in the boxing game is somewhat contrasted by him gleaming Muay Thai credentials. He is the current WBC world champion at 130 lbs. If Jomthong heart is set on winning a boxing title I have no doubt in my mind that he is capable. He's listed at 5"9 on boxrec but having trained at his gym and met him I would say he a little over 5"10. Also, still young at 22. he hits incredibly hard, I mean when I watched him hit pads it seriously sounded like a gun being shot. It would be amazing feat if a fighter could capture world titles in both sport simultaneously. Take a look at his most recent fight and let me know what u think. Of course it's early days, but I'm sure he can develop into a great great boxer. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xr67gb_dong-hyuk-kim-vs-jomthong-chuwatana_sport http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/298383/jomthong-has-chance-to-make-fighting-history
It's quite amazing. This guy defended his Muay Thai world title just 11 days after winning his first professional boxing belt. He's certainly a better prospect than Badr Hari
Yeah this has nothing to do with mma and everything to do with boxing please put it back where boxing fans can read it
sorry bro. this is where mauythai threads end up, this is a serious forum though so you landed ok. Im a fan of jomthong as I know others here are. his boxing skills are quite impressive was gonna make a thread on him myself... Bangkok post article is interesting, read it a few days ago. this guy should be far more famous but since he's thai no one seems to care. so much for thais not having good boxing jomthong really has some skills he is currently the superfeather (130lbs) Rajadamnern stadium champ, WBC champ in muaythai (135lbs), and now OPBF champion! Like you said he is only 22. here are the fights you mentioned: This content is protected [dm]xr67gb[/dm] This content is protected [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Hgy7WKrVN0[/ame]
Hey emientair, I didn't twig with the name all joined up when you posted in the Brit forum last week. atsch Of course Eminent Air in Phrakhanong. Good gym with good fighters, never been but heard very good things. It's on my old patch, I used to train and live on Sukhumvit 93 and 107 years ago, Eminent Air is on 101. About Jomthong, yep a true Thai badass and still young in boxing terms. The next Samart? Maybe, but he's not as pretty! The thing with him in boxing terms is, sure he's gonna be tougher and more conditioned than any fighter he's ever gonna meet, but the danger for him is he's a little predicatable, with a very basic defense as alot of Thai converts usually are. (Notice how he always dips to the left, and his MT seek and destroy mode that walks him onto damage). Unless he can develop some better defensive skills quick he's gonna take alot of punishment, which doesn't mean he can't get to the top, but just makes it harder. He's already been thrust into boxing at a relatively high level with only three fights. They'll probably pad himout with a load of Pinoy and Indonesean journeymen, but no doubt his learning curve is gonna be real steep, cos his handelers won't hang around too much if he's already winning semi respected regional titiles (any sniff of dough etc is all those leeches need). That being said he seems to have reasobnale footwork and most important, good weapons. Great jab for an MT convert and nice quick left hooks and uppercuts. Anyway, good luck to him, if any kind of fighter can tough it out and get to the top with minimal boxing experience I'd always put my money on a Thai!!!:good As Yaca said that was an intersting BKK article. It's very rare to get any boxing related news in the BKK post unless it envloves Buakaw, Somluck, Khaosai or Samart, unless it's about a foreigner. By the way what's your connection to the gym? Did you train there for long? Are you still there? MT or boxing?
