Thailand is brilliant if you actually take the time to meet the locals rather than being a cockhead.

I dont discriminate against fellas who go there to tear the ******* out of the place.Seeing they provide the perfect setting for that kind of behaviour.

But yeah me being with my girl and also going more so to check out their culture, surroundings and just chill for few weeks means i wont be living up to the usually standard a white man upholds in Thailand.

Ozzie, if you are serious about wanting a fight in MMA we have a massive event in Tassie planned two weeks from now (August the 7th). It's quite historical as it's the first event of it's kind here, we are expectingf4000 people to attend with more than 10 fights on the card.

Only mention it as a few people have pulled out, I'm helping the promoter a bit, if you are keen for a fight, one that will be matched at your weight then just send me a PM.

As far as Thailand goes, I've been there a couple of times. Spend a day or two in Bangkok (it's a bit of a hole), no more and then either head North to historic Chain Mai or down to the Eastern Coast.
For whatever reason islands like Phuket seem to be flooded by Aussie's, but unless you are a package holiday fan there are so many better places to go. The islands down near the Cambodian Border are tops, Ko Chang being the favourite.
Developed enough to have all the mod con's, ATM's and nice apartments, yet much of it is National Park, ride a scooter for 30 minutes and you'll be on untouched forests. You mix with a large amount of holidaying Thai's too, and it's way more popular with Euro's than Aussie's.
Being a pit sick of tanked Aussie's at home, I always reckon this is a nice change.
You'll have fun either way, though quite a bit less given you are a kept man.

I'm glad you didn't take offence to the Aussie thing. Don't know what it is, when I am drinking with lads at home around a lot of drunks, there's not a worry in the world (I am sure I'm as bad as anyone). For some reason when travelling you hear an Aussier slurring or saying something obnoxious and it gives you the shits.
Maybe it's spoiling the pleasentries of a holiday, after all you don't want a reminder of home. Yanks **** me to tears too though, for some reasons most Euro's seem to behave a lot better.

Not much has happened with MMA in Tas yet, though a local fella who was worked with a promoter in QLD for some time is really putting a ripper of a show on.
The promoter himself is a very nice guy, actually running the whole thing as a charity event for a sick kid. You can see the poster here, the yellow logo down the page some is my favourite http://www.crossfirepromotions.com.au/Crossfire_Promotions/Fight_For_A_Future.html

Very serious about getting you a fight if necesssary, and would have no problems ensuring you were well matched in terms of experience and weight.
Good luck with it anyway when you take the plunge in your first.

make frinds with the thais, they are a funny, cool laidback race and will love you if you treat em as equals (which they are of course). But a lot of europeans/yanks treat em like ****.

and remember - always "Mai Bpen Rai"

Im in thailand atm, i had a motorbike accident on the 1st day. Its crazy here atm compared to last year the amount of tourists has doubled atleast.

If you get into an accident its always your fault, the way the thais see it is like this,.. if we were not here the accident wouldnt happen. I got scammed big time, was in shock on the ground, knee all busted up with Tuk Tuk drivers yelling at me, you pay now, you go police, police take passport blah blah blah, meanwhile im still half unconciouse with blood pissing out my knee. I paid 20,000 baht and got the fck out of there, went to see the doctor and they wanted to xray the knee and possibly plaster it for 45,000 baht.

To make matters worse, the knee got infected, i got a fever, diaria and just feel like sht! not a good start for the training camp. I did manage to get a knee brace yesterday and tried to do two sessions but i think its just making my knee worse, i need a dam xray.

Catch Taxis everywhere is the best advice i can give you. I wont ride a bike anymore, its just crazy on the roads here right now, i have seen an accident or two every day ive been here, one yesterday up the road from Chalong was very bad, i think the lady died, people over her body crying, another one i saw yesterday was hit by a bus and his body was lying half under bus, the bike was a wreck, crushed by the bus. Best of luck to you.

Rock City in Patong Phuket is a good night out, they have a massive band that do unbelievable covers of metalica, RHCP etc. Make sure you go and see some Muay Thai at Bangla Stadium, just don't get suckered in to having a punt they are dodgy at best. I stayed at Karon Beach about 5 ks out of patong, hire a scooter to get around **** the tuk tuks have fun mate!
