Thailand Government Bans MMA

I can understand their point of view, although the too violent part if bull****.

 

errr. my mate went to Thailand in february and said that in some big bars they have Muay Thai bouts between young kids for the amusement of tourists. he said out of all the stuff you see out there a kid getting really ****ed up with little or no medical assistance at 2am in the morning in front of a load of pissed up tourists is ****ed up. so with this sort of stuff going on i have no idea why the would consider mma "too brutal".

The brutality of border fights can't be compared to anything I've seen in MMA. This is total bull****.

 

This is terrible! Thai fighters, with the right input over the next five to ten years, could be some of the best fighters in the lighter weights for years to come.

This is a real shame, but might be sortable, if the right money is paid, although I'm not really sure where it stands when it comes to the genuine 'government'. They're probably pissed Evolve is based in Singapore :twisted:

And to the guy above, Muay Thai is practised from a young age. I saw some gold bouts recently between kids, they're well schooled and tough, I can assure you.

 

I also think Muay Thai has received a HUMONGOUS ****ING MASSIVE EXPLOSION of new interest due to those training/a fan of MMA, as it's one of the most commonly seen utilised fighting arts.

I could make a general assumption that the 'right' people didn't kickstart the MMA in the country, so aren't
profiteering from it.

 

I know all about it, and I also know the fights on the border between rival nationalities are especially brutal.

they can still fight MMA internationally, which is probably what they would do anyway.

the part about mixed martial arts is “causing erosion” to the sport of Muay Thai and “damaging the image” of Thailand’s native martial art I can understand in a way. All these MMA fighters who migrate to thailand to train Muay thai with no interest of becoming a thai boxer but to round out their skills in MMA competition.

On the other hand foreigner money still spends.

I have to admit that I would have never become a Muay thai fan if it had not been for MMA. For me it was in 2006 when Anderson Silva tooled Rich Franklin using the Thai Plum. I must have watched that fight 20 times since!!! memorized by the destructive power of the thai clinch, and I wanted to see more. I still cant get enough of seeing someone get destroyed in the clinch.

I think he's talking about the annual 5 bouts on the Thai Burmese border where 5 semi retiered Thai boxers kick the **** out of the 5 Burmese fighters, it's nothig too serious. It just has a bit of mystic cos they use Boran hand wraps, no gloves. The Burmese are ususlly so unschooled the fights don't last long.

Or he could be refereing to the C class run of the mill fights between Thai s and Cambodians who are still developing in the sport.
