Thammanoon Niyomtrong Vs Junior Zarate the 4th December WBC Light Flyweight championship (108 lbs)

Salvador Rodriguez, a well-known ESPN journalist, has just posted on his social media that Knockout CP Freshmart ( Thammanoon Niyomtrong) now has a new opponent.

The renowned boxing reporter stated that the WBC has decided to change the status of Carlos Canizales, naming him World Champion in Recess in the 108-lb division, after he was unable to leave Venezuela to defend his title against Knockout CP Freshmart, the former WBA Super minimumweight world champion and current Thai challenger. The fight was scheduled for December 4 during the organization’s annual convention event at the Bangkok Marriott Queen’s Park.
The reason given: international political issues preventing him from traveling.

As a result, the new opponent for Knockout in the now vacant WBC light-flyweight world title bout will be Junior Zarate , the world’s No. 3 contender WBC from Argentina, owner of a record of 26 wins (9 KOs) and 5 losses, and former WBC Latino and IBF Latino champion at 108 lbs. He recently moved down in weight and captured the WBO Latinominimumweight title just three months ago.

 

Yeah that's not cool at all... I hope he will not lost his motivation Carlos Canizales is the number 3 of the Light Flyweight for me after Kyosuke Takami and Yuga Ozaki.

Knockout CP Freshmart (Niyomtrong) and Petchyndee are glad I imagine that Thai really have his chance now to be a world champion again.

In all the case I can't wait for see the next.

 

Thailand’s Thammanoon Niyomtrong, “Knockout CP Freshmart,” become the new WBC Light Flyweight champion by unanimous decision over Junior Leandro Zarate, with scores of 116–112, 116–112, and 117–111.

By the end of the fight, Thammanoon Niyomtrong was running out of steam. You can see he’s getting older, and he probably won’t remain champion for long — I can hardly name a single WBC challenger he can beat with certainty. I hope he at least tries to go for a unification bout against his compatriot Thanongsak Simsri, who holds the IBF title.

As for the 36-year-old Argentinian, the WBC’s No. 3 who stepped in at the last minute, in my opinion he hadn’t studied the Thai fighter enough. He was outclassed in every department, tried to rely on counterpunching — his usual specialty — but even with advantages in height and reach, he couldn’t find the right distance against Niyomtrong.

Even in close range, because of Niyomtrong’s head movement, precise positioning, and Zarate’s lack of uppercuts, the Argentinian was dominated about 80% of the time.

Another thing is that even though the fight and the belt were basically handed to the Thai by Petchyindee, it’s also worth noting that Zarate looked more like a Super Flyweight in the ring… so he must have rehydrated heavily, probably coming in 4–5 kilos heavier on fight night.

On the undercard, in a surprise result, China’s Li Tonghui defeated Australian Victor Nagbe via split decision for the WBC Far East and WBC Asian Super Middleweight titles.

Ryutaro Nakagaki scored a unanimous decision over Petchyindee fighter Kittidech Hirunsuk (96–94, 96–94, 96–94), and the Japanese boxer claimed the WBC International Silver Super Flyweight title.

Britain’s Ellie Bouttell, with no difficulty at all, defeated Thailand’s Chisakan Ariphipat — who is ranked No. 1 in Thailand at women’s Super Bantamweight — by TKO in round 4 to win the WBC Far East women’s Super Bantamweight title.

Thai undefeated prospect Saensuk Ketsamphao, only 18, suffered his first career loss, getting knocked out in round 5 by China’s Lite Dawuxi at Super Featherweight.

 

Well Canizales is champion in Recess so maybe he will fight Niyomtrong next time.

I prefer that Niyomtrong will try to unify against the other Thai champion Thanongsak Simsri, because I think almost all the contenders for the WBC belt will beat Niyomtrong currently, maybe only Toshiki Kawamitsu will be a defense 50/50 for Niyomtrong.


But if it's Canizales or Erik Badillo Mares he will lost his WBC belt very fast!
