Round 5 (missed the first third)

Niyomtrong is banging away on the body of the elder, hunched over with powerful left hooks and spearing rights driving forward. Rachman is countering on the backfoot with his own left hooks downstairs, swiveling into them but lowering his right arm involuntarily as he digs in with them, allowing Niyomtrong to zap him with quick line drive rights up top, snapping his head back.

Round 6

Niyomtrong is still primarily body-snatching, only deigning to headhunt when Rachman opens up as he is doing less and less frequently now. Rachman is pushed into the ropes by stiff jabs on the waistline, and worked over with power shots in combination all south of his guard. Rachman arches his back and throws a few lunging hooks into the flanks of the crouching Niyomtrong, but is mostly dancing away, slipping punches with side to side U-shaped dips when Niyomtrong brings them up.

Round 7

Niyomtrong is darting in, throwing quick 1-2s, shifting his weight onto his left foot as he thrusts in and plants it between Rachman's, staying with him as he moves. Rachman is retreating with an occasional jab or flurry to cover himself, gliding laterally to keep off the ropes. Sustained pressure and body to head artillery long-range by Niyomtrong. Rachman intentionally spits out his gum shield for a short reprieve.

That is the whole point of having the cards at these god-awful times, midday local time, and outdoors - it gives the visitor an extreme disadvantage as nobody else is accustomed to such heat, even visitors from neighboring South Asian countries. :-(

So the reason we have to get up at such odd times as 2am (when this card started, running until 5am on Ch7 - so I assumed my 3:30am alarm would get me in before the start of the main event...oops :! instead of a more reasonable 7ish/8ish if they had their boxing on at night like the rest of the world is because they are sneaky little cheats.

 

Round 8

Niyomtrong is ducking the counter left jabs Rachman is flicking out as he backs up, turning his face to either side to let them graze his cheek or miss outright. Niyomtrong is scoring body shots. Rachman is putting all his energy into evasive maneuvers and steady jabs, perhaps waiting on Niyomtrong to run low on fumes. Niyomtrong, however, seems to be pacing himself just fine as he stalks and fires in short combinations.

Four-zip in the middle third.

 

Round 9

Niyomtrong is splaying his legs and bending over to his left, shooting in a left jab above the belt line that physically knocks Rachman back a step. Niyomtrong is hurtling in on Rachman, whose legs are slowing down and whose activity with the jab is upped in desperation - scoring a bit more now. Hard body jabs by Niyomtrong used to steer Rachman where he wants him. Niyomtrong springs in and they bump skulls. Niyomtrong laughs and shrugs as he pursues a discomfited Rachman.

Round 10

Double jab on the guard by Rachman. Clinch. Leaping left hook by Niyomtrong. Rachman is flinching away now, pulling his entire body in reverse as Niyomtrong jabs up into his face and then hooks off the jab from a crouch, springing up at him. Niyomtrong rockets off his bent knees to score right hands on the bridge of the nose as Rachman flees with his guard dropping slightly. Swatting hooks by Rachman on the nape of the neck as Niyomtrong leans in looking for more body target.

Round 11

Niyomtrong is steadily committing to his game plan, walking Rachman down and staying low, placing rapier jabs into the challenger's stomach while ducking and slipping the counter jab with head movement. Rachman switches to southpaw on the outside, bouncing on his toes. Niyomtrong closes in on him and Rachman ties up. Rachman hits in the clinch, bashing Niyomtrong above the ear with his free hand. Niyomtrong laughs condescendingly at him as they let go.
