Lots of the pro-debuts are seasoned Mua Thai fighters who can walk through a decent punch, much better than many boxers fed to prospects in the "solid record" parts of the world

Looks like minimumweight has another contender, at any rate. Will have to check this out when I get a chance.

I'm suprised that IB and PinoyProdigy had the fight so close, i thought it was a close, but clear win for Freshmart.

    Exactly this.

Most have had over 100 high level MT fights and have been training in a pro manner since 5 or 6 years old.

I thought the Pinoy spoiled a lot early and some of the early rounds were nothing rounds that could have gone either way. Freshmart had the clearer rounds. So no robbery although that 119 card was a disgrace and the 117 was a bit iffy too.

PP and I disagreed on I believe three rounds despite our final scorecards being just a round off (we had a couple early that were flipped to either guy on each card) so we arrived to nearly the same result by different paths. Which rounds that he or I gave Landero did you see for Niyomtrong?

Niyomtrong had the crowd on his side oohing and ahhing every time he threw a big combo, and many of them looked the business, but Landero if you were watching closely was blocking, slipping or riding with a lot of them. So the actual connect rate for Niyomtrong is lower than it might look if you assumed most of those power shots were flush, and Landero was out working him in a majority of the rounds.

Thanks. Was planning on rewatching it later on today or this week. Watching Buitrago II now actually. You see those? Actually think Buitrago was shafted in the first fight.

Yep, did the RBR for Niyomtrong vs. Buitrago II actually:

A search didn't turn up any thread of mine for I, but I did see it (and referred to it as having been razor-thin in the rematch thread) but can't recall whether I thought it was a robbery or just "one that got away" from Choccoroncito.

I thought there were a lot of competitive, yet clear rounds for each fighter.

Rounds 1,2, and 4 (two of which I gave to Landero) could have gone either way.

Rounds 3 and 7-10 were clear Niyomtrong rounds.

Rounds 5-6 and 11-12 were clear Landero rounds.

115-113 Landero to 116-112 Niyomtrong are the only cards I’m fine with. Those two scorecards from the judges were BS. The fight could have gone either way IMO. Landero is world class.

I had it 116-113 for Freshmart, Landero definitely showed class though.

Where would you rank Landero as far as the Filipino minimumweights go h2h? Top 3-5? His movement and spoiling tactics gave the Thai a lot of problems.. But that took a lot of energy and once he slowed down Freshmart took full advantage and started to beat the hell out of his body. Really surprised he wasn't stopped there. Was really liking my TKO prediction in Kirks during those two rounds  But Landero showed a lot of toughness to get through that rough patch and will definitely be better down the line.

I'm curious in how a fight between Landero and Melvin Jerusalem would play out.

Yeah seriously, withstanding that assault in the 9th is among the most valiant things I've seen in a ring in a WHILE.
