Thammanoon Niyomtrong vs. Toto Landero RBR

Round 7

Niyomtrong is jabbing the body and getting parried, knuckle to knuckle. Landero able to stay just a few steps ahead of Niyomtrong, feet sliding into just the right position to pop off a flurry or single jab and then beat a tactical retreat. Niyomtrong uncorking some MONSTER shots and Landero either dodging or riding them while twisting and pulling away, then immediately rebounding with counter flurries, able to flash his way off the ropes on multiple occasions after coming damn close to being decapitated.

Round 8

Niyomtrong is bobbing and weaving, jabbing high. Landero throws a big scooping right uppercut at the body and it now is Niyomtrong with the slick defensive move stepping diagonally away. Niyomtrong is floating a jab and leaving the glove mashed against Landero's blocking glove/face/throat while diving in putting his entire weight into the real payload off the diversion, a heavy right downstairs. Niyomtrong is working that nice long stiff body jab from early in the fight, scoring below the guard. They clinch and Niyomtrong does some beautiful infighting, thumping on Landero's sides with a fist that is only barely free, trapped just above the wrist, but eventually shaken loose. Niyomtrong keeps sticking that body jab, hoping to wear out Landero - and it seems to be working, gradually. Landero wheezing and holding a lot.

Yeah, backfiring spectacularly. I don't really know what else he should do, though. Circling away from the power will expend his energy, as will flurrying enough to stifle it. And the body shots aren't helping.

 

Round 9

Niyomtrong is whipping the body with long rights now. They slam together into clinches as Landero desperately jumps inside with flurries to stem the flow of power from Niyomtrong. HEAVY rights on the body from Niyomtrong. DAMN! Landero showing iron ribs, here. Trapped in a corner and Niyomtrong just WAILED AWAY on him for a full 20 seconds and somehow Landero escaped. Landero jabbing from the hip, can barely keep his gloves up now. Landero circles nearly into a corner and quickens his step just enough to avoid being trapped again. Wild hook by Landero, spinning out of position. Niyomtrong raises his arms triumphantly at the bell, confident he has broken his man down physically and psychologically and softened him up for a finish in the championship rounds.

That was fucking heroic of Landero to not get stopped in the ninth when Niyomtrong was spamming full-force body blows on him.

 

Round 10

Niyomtrong is drawing out the jab from Landero, a mongoose toying with a cobra, encroaching on his space with his left arm temptingly low and shoulder drooping to leave a sloping path to his chin. Niyomtrong counters a double jab by dashing in with a 1-2 and pins Landero into the ropes momentarily. Landero slithers out and trades jabs with Niyomtrong at mid-range. Landero is walked into the ropes and Niyomtrong flies at him with a gazelle hook worthy of RJJ. Pause. Landero's glove is re-taped. Time in. Niyomtrong blocks a combo from Landero (a quick jab, which he then hooks off in a swatting motion up top, followed by a right on the body) using the right arm held up high and the left simultaneously lowered. Good defense by Niyomtrong, preventing Landero from scoring in a relatively quieter round offensively for the champ, and securing it as his frame.
