Yes but SNV has big history of failing to KO glass-jawed opponents - Yelistratov, Franco, Bob Mirovic, Tasefa (Maskaev KO1 victim), Bergeron, Bidenko all went the distance.

To his credit, SNV stopped Ettienne, Attila Levin, Owen Beck and Monte Barrett (all have suspect chins, too)

I'd pick the Big O over Valuev but Povetkin, Ibragimov and Chagaev would beat him rather easily.

Agreed, losing to Balado is no great shame itself. Golota and Donald only just squeaked by him. Savon was the only person to dominate him (shut Balado out in nearly every meeting) but he is a Cuban ATG, maybe co-GOAT.

It was the fact that he was floored heavily with headgear on that made it sort of a harbinger of things yet to pass in Maskaev's future. He could take flush shots from moderate punchers but if you clipped him right on the button he was pretty much done for.

That said, while it was a hard knockdown that would be considered a somewhat premature stoppage by pro standards, even though he flopped and had difficulty getting up at first.

Much respect for him..recall seeing him fight during a Heavyweight Explosion card on Long island in the 90's or early 2000's I think...was sitting in the hotel lobby before the fight with his toddler daughter on his lap. I think Tommy Gallagher was training him then.
