I think the problem with GSP is that he's so focused on perfection that, whenever something doesn't go his way, he starts to feel uneasy.
Take tonight for example. After his eye got bruised/bloodied, he fought more cautiously.

Oh and for the record, if they ever fight, Silva will beat GSP.

P.S. On a side note, I met Matt Serra the other day up in NYC.
    He's a funny dude.

Very true. He really plays it safe. I think if he adds alittle more punches, kicks, elbows, etc. He will finish guys easily. Its just to bad that he does that. Because it takes the excitement out of the sport. :tired

You could tell tonight just how soft GSP can be. GSP had alittle swelling and alittle bleeding and all he kept saying to his corner " I cant see, I cant see " almost like he was trying to say I dont wanna go anymore because its getting a tad rough. Meanwhile Hominick nearly pulls out the victory with a head growing ontop of his own and Couture gets his tooth knocked out and never once bitches about it on keeps checking the camera to look at the damage.

If Dana White puts St pierre in with Silva after that ill be ****in gob smacked !!!

St Pierre just looks like he's forgotten how to pull the trigger , his timing looked shoddy , his lack of attempt to force an opening on Sheilds was shocking really , who knows how bad the eye was , all the above said if your the champion and your blind in one eye (blurred / blind same thing) why wouldnt you go into cruise mode and ensure you take a points win .

The one thing that St Pierre has in his locker that should worry Silva is his wrestling , seeing what Sonnen did to Silva should give St Pierre some optimism about his game plan .

Tonight we seen St Pierre the kick boxer , which sadly isnt as dynamic , dominating or entertaining as St Pierre the dominant wrestler .

I suppose it backs up his actions as a surgical striker these days because when you think about the guys he was dominating with stand up back in the day you look at people like Hughes , Parysian , Trigg , Sherk and to an extent Jon Fitch and you say these men are not fantastic strikers , we got a glimpse of what could of happened to St Pierre if he did engage a talented striker in a pure kick boxing match tonight not to mention Matt Serra KO'ing him .

GSP is a long-term champion like Wlad Klitschko. They get to the top of their game and stay there because they are smart, technical fighters who don`t take unnecessary chances. He had a game plan to win and even though partially blinded carried it to victory. An impressive beatdown of Nick Diaz and all will be forgotten and forgiven.

no way in hell is gsp going to beat nick, nick has much better stand up than jake and will destroy gsp in a grappling match.

I don't know why people say "technical fighter" when what they really mean is "safety-first over-cautious fighter".

BJ Penn is a technical fighter. Anderson Silva is a technical fighter. Nick Diaz is a technical fighter.

Not all fighters who use technical skill and have great technique base their games around not getting hit and taking the safest possible route to victory every time.

GSP will maul Diaz on the ground. And yes, Nick has very good standup, but he wont' get much of chance to use it as he'll be on his back the whole fight.
Could he sub GSP? Possiblly, but highly unlikely in my opinion. GSP is too skilled on the ground to let that happen.
    GSP in relatively easy decision.

I'll be scratching my head for a long time wondering why that fight didn't go to the floor. Shields was given an absolutely rubbish gameplan, whoever told him to stand with GSP or keep trying to clinch him was a moron. He didn't try to force it to the ground near enough as he should've. He only attempted it when he fell back on instinct, and even then GSP stopped it effortlessly.

A lot was learnt from both fighters tonight.
