GSP definitely took it more safely after his injury and mostly everybody would have done it too.

Still, GSP showed us that is not a great fighter. He is just doing enough to win. He does not break down his opponent. He neutralized them with great tactical. GSP is probably the best mixed martial artist to ever step in the octagon, but just not a great fighter.

Silva has actually already offered to go down to 170 - if you go back and watch the Maia fight they were beginning to hype Silva challenging St. Pierre. But with Silva acting so crazy White cancelled the fight and made him defend his own title.

To me I'm slowly coming around to the idea that St. Pierre just doesn't have the frame to challenge at middleweight. I'd like to see him try but its easy to say when you're not the one giving up a sure thing. I think St. Pierre's suggestion of a catchweight makes an increasing amount of sense.

i know shields isnt easy to win but gsp could make more of an effort to finish his fights.
its better to go out gunz blasing and get KOed than going out not going 100% and lose and gsp won but he want exciting while doing so which is my big problem. sure every fight doesnt have to be a fight of the night contender but still.

Well, if he really thinks he can get down to 170, which I'm very skeptical about, then he should have absolutely no problem with a catchweight. Sounds like that's the way to go.

Hey I wasnt overly impressed with GSP's display in the last 3 rounds either. But it's better to leave with the belt dont you think? It's up to the challenger to take the belt, not for Georges to gift it too him. That's why he is still the Champion

both fighters have to do their part, it kinda feels like wlad klitschko when he jabs most of the fight then throws a couple of right hands and the guy is KOed in the 8th or something, but gsp doesnt deliver that round 8 KO if you know what i mean

I know what you mean fella. But you've reaffirmed my point. Jake had to put GSP in trouble to win a round let at least 3 times out of five to win the belt. He didnt. It's not the most exciting style in the world and I myself would like to see him take more risks. But I dont see why GSP has to do Jakes job for him. If Jake couldn't deal with basic jab and lateral movement you'd see being taught in all boxing gyms, then why should GSP decide to stand and trade. If it aint broke...

i think couture is a good example of not always making every win a KO win in fact he has 8 decision wins but he always tries to win by going 100% and try to finish the fight

How many here think GSPs decision streak will tarnish his legacy in the long term?

i believe gsp will lose against anderson. Anderson's limbs and striking is far superior to gsp's and if gsp wins he will win by lay and pray because i dont believe anderson will be able to stuff gsp's takedowns.

Its partly he doesn't really try to finish fights, but its mainly his style...he's a v. good striker, but not really a powerful one - never was before or after Serra. His ground game is based on steady control and attritional gnp, so that kinda what you get...people make too much of a big deal about 'athleticism' and all that crap...he's fighting the best fighters in the world and they're not that easy to KTFO of. I personally love seeing him just win rd and rd demoralize the whole division.

GSP clearly became more boring, mainly due to Serra and the fact that losing the belt means losing a lot of money.

I was surprised he didn't rush for the kill after his kick to the face last night, 99% of the time every fighters rush for the finish after a hard knockdown. (maybe the eye, who knows.)

The blame goes to Shields too who was known for his relentless takedowns where he never stops until he gets you down, he ended up with no TD and was never able to use his vastly superior JJ. Both fighters could have done much more to make this unique main event a lot more exciting, especially after the crazy fight between Aldo and Hominick.

Now I really hope we see Diaz vs GSP in the future, hopefully Diaz will talk enough **** and insult Georges enough to bring back his killer instinct!:fire
