No, I don't believe there's any self hatred.

The thing is, he can still box certain fighters at a certain level, he's still feeling it in the gym, and he's still in decent shape for his age. Mentally, he feels the same as he did when he was in his 20's. Not forgetting of course that it's all he's ever done since he was about 8 years old. He didn't just have a passing interest as a kid, his father had him training full time. He was moulded into a fighting machine. Like you say, along with that, there's also the fame, money and the respect that massages his ego.

I can't see him retiring yet. And even if he says he is, I think he'll still come back for one more at some point. I don't think he could mentally retire on a loss.

For sure. If he wants to keep going, he better keep it at a D level. C-class non-punchers, at best. Eventually, though, one of these really low-level guys will tag him good and knock him cold. Don't want to see that.

I think we can safely assume that commissions and promoters don't typically have the interests of the fighters in mind. He can still make them a bit of cash depending on where he fights, so yeah, I think it's probable he'll continue on.

This was true 6 years ago. Now RJJ is the guy you go to for the "legacy" kill. He's the one trick pony, now, the GKTFO spectacle. He's the king. Thank you for all your knockouts. Thank you for the lack of fundamentals. Thank you for the unwarranted arrogance and for finding your place on the canvas.

I doubt he will either. Taking on a legitimate banger like Enzo was very foolhardy, and even more so given it wasn't even a title fight.

After seeing the way that unfolded. Roy had zero to little chance of making it through that fight. He can't even avoid punches anymore that he can see coming right at him.

I at least like that he tried to win and didn't spend the entire time in a shell. Had he been that willing to engage in Tarver 3 he might have won.

I very much doubt he'll ever be able to secure another world title shot though. He said he wants to win a strap at CW but how on earth is he going to get himself in a position to fight for one? No way he's working his way back up to get a high ranking. CW is a strong division with lots of punchers plying their trade there and another brutal KO loss is inevitable if he goes anywhere near the top boys up there. Russian billionaire promoter Andrey Ryabinskiy voiced his disgust about the Maccarinelli match up the other day.

'Ryabinskiy, furious and very upset over the loss, called Jones “one of the greatest in the history of the sport” and blamed fellow promoter Vladimir Hryunov for the bitter setback in his conversation with Russian media. (although, technically Vladimir Hryunov was not the promoter of the event).

“He should have never fought in this bout in the very first place. This match-up was useless, harmful. It would have been another case if it had been a title fight but it couldn’t have been a title fight as both participants aren’t highly rated by the sanctioning bodies," said Ryabinskiy.

“Vladimir Hryunov is the one to blame here. For what reason did he arrange this fight? What for?! It shouldn’t have been arranged. Hryunov created a let down and tricked both our country and Roy Jones Jr. by staging this nonsense”, added Ryabinskiy.

“Roy can be a singer, can open new boxing schools, and can help by strengthening prizefighting in Russia, but he shouldn’t be fighting in such fights at this stage of his career. Vladimir [Hryunov], if you need money – come to me and we shall make something interesting, but please don’t make Russia ashamed of these wrongdoings."

 Roy's head would literally explode as soon as Kudryashov landed a punch. Either that or it would be knocked into orbit in the stratosphere.

I think he just loves the attention mainly. He still has his commentary job with HBO and he can still continue to train fighters too so he should just stick to doing that and ride of into the sunset before he gets carried off in a casket.

That surprised me too. Enzo has a vicious uppercut as well.

True, he did come to fight and there was no spoiling and excessive holding like a randy gay octopus to prevent Enzo from landing anything meaningful or clean either. If a shot 75 year old glass-jawed Roy doesn't have to resort to that kind of cowardly cheating, why do prime youngins like Ward have to? :think

Andre Ward has no chin, none... Enzo Mac would have obliterated him even faster than he did Roy... Holding or no holding.:deal

I hear the bum squad has been ringing Jones' phone off the hook for a potential clash with Wilder mid 2016, in a "passing of the torch" kind of fight.

 That never even crossed my mind. Roy might be shot to bits and stand zero chance of beating anyone half decent but a fight between him and Wilder is a genuine 50/50 affair IMO. lol
