(i know he'll never read this ****) but anyway , THANKS to werdum for beating Gonzaga AGAIN. Just like he did in 2003 (just like the jackson vs liddell rivalery). I was so sick and tired of this ultra overrated mr i "highkicked a past prime crocop" therefore i"m "ze best"...Werdum is boring as hell and can look like utter **** sometimes (see his fight vs Kharitonov & arlovski)... But at least , he's with his rematchs + will generally always have a huge advantage against anyone who has the balls to challenge him on the ground. (nogueira being the exception.)
I'm sorry but a top fighter (and ex top kickboxer) who gets KOed by a bjj fighter and by highkick ? You gtta be kidding. Gonzaga is utter sht compared to the likes of Hug , Hoost , Ignashov , Bonjasky , Aerts etc.....etc... the ultimate irony..No way would a prime crocop lose against a bjj fighter BY HIGHKICK. that's like Nogueira getting subbed by crocop. It's ridiculous and you know it. Something went terribly wrong with this guy's career. even before the gonzaga incident. He was already looking different against Eddy sanchez. Then he lost against Kongo too. Who the **** is kongo ? not evena kickboxing reject. A joke compared to crocop's talent in both mma & K1. Today's crocop is a shadow of his former self.
your right, that's almost as absurd as saying a wrestler like Keven Randleman would Ktfo Mirko badly.....it just wouldn't happen.
Yes, a prime CroCop would never get KO'd by a big strong grappler, never happen. Gonzaga broke Randys ****ing arm with a kick that was blocked, there was nothing lucky about either one of those. K1 in general is way overrated, its the same 6 guys fighting each other in a sport that has very little participation.
Touché ! But i'm still right though. Crocop won his rematch in 40 seconds or so... Crocop looked average against Sanchez Looked like **** against Gonzaga Looked like **** against Kongo... If that's not a sign of a fighter who's career is near over , i don't know what is. We're not in 2004 anymore. He's too old and no one ages the same way. (look at couture). Look at Tyson in boxing. you see it all the time especially in combat sports. Crocop > Hunt in the striking department too. But that didn't stop Hunt from still beating him in their rematch... Crocop looked very good during pride's grand prix. I'll give him that. but that was it. He gave it all against fedor (and that was in his prime) , he was fast , alert , had a perfect ground defense but it wasn't enough... In the end , crocop never was able to grab the hw belt. Well he did won the grand prix belt. The point is...when a guy this good has 2 losses back to back against the likes of Gonzaga & Kongo...It's not a good sign at all. And yes his loss against randleman was ****ing absurd too. But we all know what happened in the rematch and what followed after that..crocop was looking great at the time. Today ? The difference is that you can't even blame it on a "fluke" or a bad night. Crocop shouldn't be ranked in the top 10. That's how bad he looked in his latest fights. Gonzaga was lucky to fight a guy who was a shadow of his former self.
I agree with one thing.. Thank You Werdum.. And to the guy thats going to beat Werdum...an advance Thank You as well
CroCop also looked terrible in the fight after Randleman 1, Kanehara took him to decision, maybe he will come back from this too, I don't know, I don't think he will but its possible. Also I think CroCop hitting a standing guillotine in the rematch was just as weird as the first fight. I just think its pretty arbitrary to say that CroCop was already ruined when Gonzaga got ahold of him, he was coming off the biggest win of his career followed by an easy fight where he looked average. I can see the argument for Kongo getting a ruined CroCop, but whos to say Gonzaga didn't ruin him. MMA is changing and has changed alot in the last 2 years or so, fighters are just getting better and more even.
Werdum is a tough guy...hard to get to, GG and AA couldn't do much to him and his ground game could be the best in division. He is the type of guy who always makes his oppenent look bad. So I'll be interested to see the next guy to beat him
I bet they will utilize leg kicks, thats for sure. I don't know how he was even standing at the start of round 2, those were brutal.
K1 , overrated or not. COMPARE a prime Peter Aerts' kickboxing AGAINST ANYONE in mma. and they all look like ****. do the same with Ignashov. People say that gonzaga's kicks are amazing on the sherdog forums i **** you not. But i bet you guys must think the same too. It's pathetic. a guy like gonzaga ? in the kicking department ? he's got nothing on the likes of Hug , Hoost , Feitosa , LeBanner , Graham , Musashi , Manhoef , Bonjasky , Greco , McDonald , Filho etc...I'm not gonna mention them all , you get the point.. Best thing you got in mma as far as kickboxing/ muay thai is concerned are Kid Yamamoto , Anderson Silva & Crocop (prime crocop).
And that makes it tougher for 1 dimentional guys like Mirko to excell. I mean really what's he going to do....LHK or straight right. When he becomes that predictable he becomes that much more beatable. I don't see his style doing anything in the UFC.
Now youre getting carried away, I was not surprised GG lost but he does have some serious power in that right leg..You cannot deny that. Is he the same caliber a kicker as a Bonjasky? No..But can he deliver the same power or more?..Yes
