Since I wasn't around right after the Kessler-Calzaghe fight till a few weeks ago, I now went back in time to catch up on all the post fight threads. It was a very good and entertaining read to say the least, and I am sad I wasn't part of it. Some real gems gets erased over time, which is somewhat sad, but that's how it is... The months leading up to the fight was some of my most intense moments of debate - including offline - it was unreal. People going back and forth with analysis, predictions and jestful taunts were epical. I would like to thank nearly everyone for participating in a heated debate, that despite it's intensity and tenacity - never went bad. It was a bout between gents - much in the same spirit as the actual fight. All who participated showed that they were willing to debate on a higher level - even if they weren't fans of the two beforehand, in between or after. You all know who you are - and I hail you all. Finally, oh Blocky, where art thou?
Hardly. I'm a common, or uncommon, Yank and participated in the debate just the same as the Brits and everyone else, civilly.
I almost left this site for good after that damn fight. Holy **** it was awful. Calzaghe was being compared to SRR on a regular basis and guys were actually defending the claim. I quickly brought up that he beat Manfredo last year.
Yeah...overall, the best analysts and best posters on ESB are American. There are some very good European posters too and some very good Aussies...but if I had to chose, the best American posters give the best analysis and are the best posters on ESB.
Man, at this point, I can't tell the difference. Some are a bit biased on either side of the Atlantic, some aren't. It's all just human nature. I know I've read British posters who know a whole hell of a lot more about boxing than I do, and American posters as well.
European, Aussies, Asians, Americans and Canadians - all chipped in and did great to make this experience memorable.
